Monty Majestic Montana

Monty is our first German Wirehaired Pointer. We adopted him as a 5 month-old puppy and he stole our hearts. He does not look like a typical GWP. He does not have the facial furnishings that most wirehairs have or the wiry coat. Most people confuse him with a shorthair.

However, he IS a true wirehair in all other aspects. He loves to hunt and swim. We are convinced Monty thinks he is part otter. If he had it his way, he would be swimming all the time regardless of weather, which almost got him and his dad killed when the ice broke under Monty and his dad went to his rescue.

Monty is a close ranging hunting dog, perfect for the foot hunter, and a natural retriever. We love his hunting abilities but Monty’s personality is the reason why we love this breed so much.
Monty is a clown with his family but quite aloof with strangers. As one of our friends put it, he is arrogant and looks at everybody down his nose. He is very protective of his house, but as soon as we let visitors in, he is fine with them.
