WISHBRINGER
(1987)
Infocom
This
would have to be one of the first games I remember playing and its
a shame that I don't remember exactly where I got it. My dad may
have gotten it from someone at work which is where I got a lot of
my games then. Anyhow, This game hooked me into the computer gaming
world. Sure it was only a text adventure, but the idea of moving
around a town and typing in anything you want and get a response.
Wow! "Punch the old lady" - "I don't think that would
be appropriate at this time." Sheer genius!
The
plot of the game is that your charcter is a mail carrier and you
are off to deliever a letter to a magic shop on the far side of
town before it closes. When you finally get there, the world seems
to change for some reason and the town becomes an evil place. The
people change and the post office is now this large castle. In delivering
this letter, you discover the wishbringer stone which has special
powers. Unfortuantly I never figured out how to get into the castle
so I never finished the game. Im sure there are walkthroughs and
such on the internet for it, but maybe one day I will get around
to figuring it out for myself. A worthwhile introduction into computer
gaming back in the day.
