The VNZ Junior Tour continued at Mairangi Beach Centre on the 22nd December. It was a relatively still, fine day with some light cloud cover.
Most teams who played at New Plymouth appeared again but there were some new faces. There were 57 teams in all which was a slight drop from the New Plymouth tournament. We had to use two grass courts for one division of pool play and again for two divisions of post section play.
The large numbers of Bay of Plenty players ensured their success again. Special note should be made of Kramer and Thomas who won the Under 16 Boys in New Plymouth and then backed this up by winning the Under 17-19 combined at Mairangi and Whitewood and Taane who won the girls under 15 in New Plymouth and at Mairangi came second in the girls under 16.
There were plenty of other promising players on display as well and many close encounters. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top at the Mount on the 29th.
This tour is a great opportunity for the development of Junior players and its growth from last year is phenomenal. Well done to the few hard working servants of the game.
