Boat Jetty to Batang Ai
Hilton Batang Ai
Longhouse Resort

Three and a half hours by road from Kuching and a further 10 minutes by boat brings you to the resort's site on the serene shores of Batang Ai Lake in the heart of the rainforest. The 100 air conditioned rooms are in 11 indigenous timber longhouses, built in the traditional Iban way on stilts with breathtaking views of the lake. Facilities include pool, tennis, restaurant and bar. Activities include nature walks, fishing and river safaris where you will meet the friendly native Ibans.
SERAWAK - Malaysia's largest state and is located on the island of Borneo. Sarawak is a land of deep jungles, wildlife and quite amazing geological and archaeological sites. Add to this a fascinating history, until 1946 the island was the personal domain of the Brooke family. The land was given to James Brooke, a British adventurer and merchant, by the sultan as a gift for helping to put down a native rebellion. It remained in the family until the Japanese invasion in 1942 - so ended the 100-year reign of the White Rajas.
Tradition is still alive today, descendents from the Iban 'head hunting' warriors still live along the Lemanak river, where you can observe them making their crafts and performing their ritual dances. Kuching is the state capital, a busy bustling place with a real melting pot of cultures and influences. A good starting point for some of the tours Sarawak has to offer.
If you have all the time in the world, you would want to stay forever here. Find time to explore the beautiful area. Hike along the jungle trails by the river or relax on the verandah soaking up the atmosphere whilst the villagers go about their daily activities. Or if you are adventurous enough, have a go at fishing Iban-style or swim in the river. We managed to take some pictures of the flowers and plants around the Hilton Batang Ai.
