The
eagerly awaited double album and PC game of ‘ED HUNTER’ will be
released through EMI Records on 17 May 1999 in a deluxe 3 CD package
with a spectacular 20 page color booklet with instructions and images
from the game. The 2 CD double album (playable on standard CD Players)
features the soundtrack to ED HUNTER as voted for by fans on this site
and includes tracks from 12 Maiden albums. The set is priced to appeal
to both music fans and game-players. Always at the cutting edge of
music technology, Maiden were one of the first bands to release a
promotional video, the first to release a full length live concert
video, one of the first bands out on CD and THE first to release their
entire music catalogue as multimedia (enhanced) CDs in 1998. Now, at a
time when music and technology are converging on an almost daily
basis, they are the FIRST band to fully integrate the excitement of
their music and distinctive imagery in a full length PC game
experience. A classic ‘shoot ‘em up’, with a style similar to
Time Crisis and Virtual Cop, the game will have universal appeal. The
objective is SURVIVAL! Armed initially with a pistol you face
increasingly powerful foes from the natural and supernatural worlds.
Use trick shots, pick up hidden bonuses and, as your score increases,
you will be rewarded with stunning animations, locations and all
manner of hideous creatures. To help you get right inside the game, ED
HUNTER supports Force Feedback joysticks. Let's see through the game
now...
The
Game
Level 1
We open with the streets, taken from the albums 'Iron Maiden' and
'Killers'. You begin this level outside the Cart & Horses pub.
From here the level branches into the underground station or continues
on past the Ruskin Arms before arriving outside number 22 Acacia
Avenue. Any self-respecting Maiden fan should be able to guess who's
house this is!
Level 2
The inmates have taken over the asylum. The mad doctors
experimenting on them are running around in a killing frenzy. This is
where the player first encounters Eddie! Chained up in a padded cell
at the end of a long corridor, taken from the cover of 'Piece Of
Mind'. The powers of evil pull him through the cell floor and the whole
thing dissolves as he falls straight to the lowest level of Hell!
Level 3
Loosely based on the cover of 'Number Of The Beast', Hell is an
ocean of crusted lava with a fantastical structure of stone towers
rising out of it. You move up through this Italian Renaissance
environment to Hell's attic where you must defeat numerous devils and
the souls of the inquisition! If the player can survive long enough,
play reaches the highest level of Hell. Rotting limbs and bones hang
through the ceiling; there's a smell of death and decay everywhere.
Eddie crawls his way through the ceiling back to Earth!
Level 4
Taken from the cover of 'Live After Death', Eddie bursts through a
grave and runs off towards the forest. We're following when the ground
yields up its dead and zombies burst out of the ground tugging off
their own limbs to use as clubs. At the end of the level Eddie runs
into a Victorian crypt outside the hallowed ground of the graveyard.
Moments later a blinding light erupts from the door and everything
fades up to white...Eddie has activated a time machine!
Level 5
On now to the ever-popular cover of 'Powerslave'. Opening with a
big establishing shot of the pyramid and then revealing an exact
duplicate of the album art, we follow Eddie into the heart of the
pyramid where he kicks ancient Egyptian butt and shows the mummies
what a REAL undead man is made of. Hidden in the top of the pyramid is
the time machine. Note: The map for this level is closely based on the
layout of the tomb of King Rameses II in the Valley of the Kings!
Okay, so it's not a pyramid but it's only a few hundred miles away and
several thousand years different. What's that between friends?
Level 6
Level six is the 'Blade Runner' streets of 'Somewhere In Time'.
Eddie is right at the heart of a museum from which he escapes into the
neon lit streets. This is a future where the scum of the universe have
arrived on Earth, and they're all out for the player's blood! Eddie
runs into the future version of the Ruskin arms.
Level 7
Eddie's last destination is a devastated Earth. This proves to be
the post-apocalypse environment from the album 'Virtual XI'. Earth is
polluted and decaying. Fires burn on crumbling street corners. The sky
boils with the fires of perdition. The only living creatures are super
strong mutants and cannibals. They rip up buildings to get to the
player and fire highly advanced weaponry!
Level 8
Here you will face the final forces of ultimate doom and this
section must remain a mystery......known only to those brave souls
able to survive this far.
