An actor once again running for presidency….

Last November 26, 2003 Fernando Poe Jr. declared that he will be running for presidency this coming 2004 election. He also emphasizes that no political party has influenced him in his decision, it is just merely a family decision. I don’t believe in this. He wants to run because he knows that he will surely be offered with the best selection of candidates as his party because he is popular. The world that this action king has entered will change his life forever (like Erap) and will as well change our lives for the next six years. Do the Filipinos still have not learned from the past? Will history still repeats itself? How long will it take this country to realized that what we need is a competitive and strong leader who will uplift us from this flawed kind of economy? Let us prove to the whole world that we are civilized people and that we have a good culture in terms of politics and governance. I am writing this article because I am concern with FPJ and his family. I don’t take the whole blame on him, I am worried that the people behind him or the people who pretend to support him may use him for their own selfish desires. This is the reality and it is just normal and natural to use people. I commute everyday and I pay the FX for their service and in return they use my money. What is considered unjust is when we use people to the extent of ruining their reputation and dignity to get what we need and this happen extremely in the political world. Not just destroying names but even killing individuals. I believe that FPJ has good plans for our country, but this is not the only thing that matters. Susan Roces said in an interview ( I cannot recall exactly the phrase but this is the thought), “ Di naman kailangan ang nakapagaral talaga, ang mahalaga ay handing tumulong sa kapwa”.  Service is not just about helping people, it is about having the knowledge how to help them. It is not just about allocating funds to feed them but it is about investing on something that will give them a long term benefit. Some of you might say that school is not the only place to get educated. I agree to that. School is “not” the only place but it is an important institution that may mold an individual to become a person with intellect and with values such as integrity and honesty. I cannot imagine myself being the president if I will not pass my accounting subjects especially accom2b where we tackle about investments, costs etc. which are relevant not just in business but also in dealing with financing and economics. One of my professors said that not everything taught in school will be used in real life. Maybe that is partly true but the skill one has acquired like resisting to cheat, striving to pass an exam, memorizing and analyzing are helpful to the real life. FPJ said that he is willing to learn the constitution. Being in a position, is not an opportunity to learn what we do not know, it is an opportunity to apply what we know. To all of you out there…one vote can change a nation, let us be careful in choosing the candidates who really deserve to be in the positions.
