FromMarch to June, these storms rip through Tornado Alley, states inthe great plains and midwest where warm,moist Gulf air meeets cold ,dry Canadain air.
What are tornadoes?
Tornadoes are violent storms with storms winds that can reach and exceed 500 mph.Because the winds are so violent it is hard to tell exactly how strong they are. These funnels last anywhere between 5 min. to one hour.(it is rare to have a tornado that lasts more than 45 min., let alone an hour)

The Fujuta scale is used to measure the intesity of a tornado. It was developed by Dr. Fujuta.

What should I do if there is a severe thunderstorm/tornado in the aera?
1. Go inside/stay inside and stay away from windows. Turn on a radio or TV to listen to reports.
2.If a tornando is headed in your direction, seek shelter in the bathroom, basement, or closet. If youare in a closet or bathroom be in one on th ground floor. Remain calm and stay in the closet or bathroom.
3If a tornado is not haeded in rour direction, keep calm and keep your TV or radio on to listen to see if a storm is headed your way
if you are at home
If you are at school you shuold listen to what you teacher says and follow his/her directions.
if you are outside and can't get inside
get into a ditch lay down flat on the ground
