My Subprofile
My Subprofile
well, here we are
i've finally decided to protest the crap that subprofile.com does to me and so i've moved the contents of my subprofile to my website. I hope you don't mind, it's the same stuff, and i intend to update it as often, but the popups were driving me nuts and when it stopped working i just couldn't deal with it anymore. so enjoy.
Links random infuriated observations

if you know anything abt the affairs of iowa city, you're probably at least vaguely aware of the "peace" camp that's currently on pentacrest
there's a cluster of battered tents up against the backdrop of the old captitol building (yes, it's still under construction) with that lovely green wall around it that's covered in graffitti, black spray paint crossing out the graffitti, and, if you look closely, there are still places where you can enjoy the original propaganda that was on it
these nuts have been living out there through all the crazy weather of the last few weeks (not very impressive right now, but remember that it's been both absurdly cold and rediculously hot - this IS iowa) and they've managed to keep ppl around all the time manning their table
what you're probably not familiar w/ is how charming they look - their fading handmade signs ducttaped to anything that sits still, their battered coolers providing them w/ sustenance
these birkenstock-wearing, coop-shopping, middle-class yuppies have adapted to their shantytown w/ good-natured ease
anyhow, yesterday the pro-war faction decided that they couldn't go on leaving the damn bleeding-heart hippies to have all the fun and, of course, get all the attention
they staged a counter-camp a sidewalk away
they stayed one day (not a cold one, of course), rented a shade tent and planted shiny printed pro-war posters all around them
apparently they had some speeches at some point during the day, but when i saw them they were sitting around chitchatting and sipping pop under their canopy

unfair as it may be, this is precisely what has fueled my stereotype of conservatives
it's this unwillingness to undergo privations for a principle
i havne't actually spoken to any of hte people who have participated in either group, so all of my descriptions are kind of biased
but still, if you assume they all have the same background - working class/farm raised kids who are working to pay their own way through school (this is a positive image for both, at least in my opinion), then who do you have more respect for?
it's still the liberals
i'd much rather be associated with people who value principle than those that value money - or "success"

"i am one-hundred percent sure that gravity is stronger today than it's ever been before"
"if you look carefully, you can see people walking around on the moon"
my little brother is not on drugs
he's an awful lot of fun, though

why do all these bullshit "presidential" candidates for uisg keep filling up my mailbox w/ papers that are nasty neon colors?
i don't give a shit abt any of them
even assuming they could actually do what they claim to do
for example: these ppl claim they'll change the "letters home" policy (when, if you get a paula, your parents are told)
the university doesn't give a shit what students think abt it
which is why it exists in the first place
in my personal opinion, it's not always that bad
it's the same little brats who get their ubills sent home to mommy who are protesting it - until you start supporting yourself you are NOT an adult, i don't give a shit whether you're 18 or 32

how come i check my subprofile more often than anyone else?
I know what's on it...

how come expressing yourself (aka - having a website or a subprofile or even aim) always results in so many damn pop-ups?
there are lots of bright ppl out there w/ no lives
why don't we write and share our own ad-free programs and websites (kinda like trillian and winamp)?
GEEKS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!

you'd think that, after 7-8 years of post-secondary education, you'd have some idea of what a test should be
in other words
you should not have 10 multiple choice questions, each worth 3 pts (out of a total of 100) and they should have answers that are distinguishable (not "choose the 'best' answer") and they not all have the answer "all of the above"
