| well, here we are i've finally decided to protest the crap that subprofile.com does to me and so i've moved the contents of my subprofile to my website. I hope you don't mind, it's the same stuff, and i intend to update it as often, but the popups were driving me nuts and when it stopped working i just couldn't deal with it anymore. so enjoy. |

this is the truncated version of his lengthy and not so interesting "Testament" in which he gives advice to his sons and then launches into some autobiographical bs that i didn't bother with it's not technically correct i mostly quoted directly, but sometimes i had to change the form of the sentence "If this document displeases anyone, let him not be angry, but rather let him believe that, in my old age, i talked nonsense as i sat upon my sledge [lay on my deathbed]." 1. speak without guile, but understand much 2. pass the foolish by and not stir them up 3. learn to govern your eyes (hear that boys?) 4. for god's sake, be not lazy (ok, ok, so i took it out of context...) 5. whenever [you] confirm an oath made to your brethren or to any other man, first test your heart as to whether you can abide by your word 6. eat and drink without unseemly noise 7. attend to all matters yourselves 8. guard against lying, drunkenness, and vice, for therein perish soul and body 9. visit the sick, and accompany the dead, for we are all but mortal 10. love your wives, but grant them no power over you 11. forget not what useful knowledge you possess, and acquire that with which you are not acquainted 12. let not the rising sun find you in your bed 13. sleep is established by God for noon-day repose, since birds and beasts and men then rest from their labors not everything i study is useless |
