Maggie's
first website message, 2003 GREETINGS
FROM MAGGIE KIRKPATRICK
Hi
Everybody,
I
thought it was about time that I said a
few words to all you lovely people who
have taken the time to visit my website.
I am an
absolute idiot when it comes to the world
of websites etc., but thanks to my good
friends in the UK we now have an outlet
for information regarding the topsy turvy
world of M.K.
I don't
even know how to 'log on' so I have very
little idea of what the site entails but
hopefully as time goes by I'll get better
acquainted with the system and maybe
communicate a little more.
As you
may know, I finished my long run in
'Singin In The Rain' last December,
concluding a most successful run in Hong
Kong and Singapore. Things have been very
quiet since then with just a short run as
Rummy Minchens in 'Major Barbara' at the
Sydney Theatre Company. This was a
"last minute" job as the
actress originally cast became ill and I
stepped in with just two previews before
the opening. It was somewhat hectic but a
great adrenaline rush and finished up
being a fun job with a great cast.
I also
had a small role in a little art film
called 'With Mother'. You may get to see
this on Ch4 as it is a co-production with
Australia's SBS. I had the privilege of
working with some wonderful people
including the brilliant Kerry Fox.......
an actor whom I admire enormously.
On the
work front it's too quiet for my liking
but the time out has given me a chance to
get on with the never-ending renovations
of my house. A great deal of time is also
spent taxiing my grandchildren to and
from sporting commitments. Megan (nearly
nine) is playing soccer twice a week and
my grandson Daniel (nearly 14) has Rugby
and Rugby League commitments. He's an all
rounder elite athlete and plays for his
school as well as his club. He recently
won a Gold medal for the 80m hurdles at
the State Championships and followed that
with a Silver medal in the National
Titles. As you can see, I'm very proud of
both of them and they light up my life.
NOW.......
I have a project in mind and I would like
to gauge your interest and if that
interest is there then I may explore it
further......
Here is
the basis of the idea...... a little
background for you......
In 1997
I did a one woman cabaret show called
'The Screw Is Loose'. This was performed
at a venue in Sydney called the Tilbury
Hotel. My show was the last to be
performed there as the hotel closed after
over 10 years as a premier cabaret venue.
I was flattered, excited and very nervous
at being invited to devise a show for
this prestigious venue with it's
glittering history of 'Divas' presenting
their shows.
With
the aid of writer David Mitchell;
director, choreographer and musical
theatre legend Nancy Hayes; Andrew Ross
(on piano) and I embarked on one of the
most liberating experiences of my career.
It was a big hit with the public and
critics alike.
WHAT
THE CRITICS SAID.......
"Kirkpatrick
Succeeds Brilliantly."
"A
Class Act."
"Kirkpatrick
reveals a VULNERABLE & TENDER side!"
"Kirkpatrick
is an excellent raconteur."
"Kirkpatrick
can sell her songs and spin a yarn like
no other!"
So you
see, the brief season was a triumph for
me. Somehow I've not had the courage to
try and repeat the performance......
maybe it was just a one off.... who
knows?
However,
I have decided to explore the possibility
of presenting the show on CD. Although
the show is very much geared to the
Sydney scene long past, and recent, this
autobiographical journey with songs may
provide you with some insight into me and
my life other than Joan Ferguson.
After
42 years as an actress I am looking at
ways in which I might diversify.....
ideally I'd love to create another TV
character for you but that doesn't seem
to be on the cards at the moment and
theatre (my preference) seems to come in
fits and starts.
So,
talk amongst yourselves and let me know
what you think of the CD project and
perhaps if viable financially I might be
able to go ahead with the project.
In the
meantime we will try to keep you up to
date with my activities and, once again,
I thank you all for your continuing
interest and support.
My
warmest good wishes to all,
Maggie
Kirkpatrick.
