Maggie's
second website message, 2004 GREETINGS TO
ALL MY FRIENDS WHO VISIT THE MAGGIE
KIRKPATRICK WEBSITE !
Hello
and welcome. It has been suggested by my
dear friend Rob Cope that I make another
small contribution to the web site. So
here goes:
Firstly
on the work front things have been very
quiet...too quiet for my liking. The year
began most successfully with a wonderful
production of my all time favourite play,
The Shoehorn Sonata by John Misto.
I first performed in this wonderfully
moving play in 1995 here in Sydney and
then in 1996 at the King's Head Theatre
in London with Susannah York. This is a
heartwarming tale of two women who
survived the Japanese prison camps of WW2
and are reunited after 50 years when a
documentary is being made of those
horrific times. My character, Bridie was
an Australian Army nurse who rescued
Sheila, a young English schoolgirl when
their ships were sunk in the South China
Seas. Together they see each other
through the horrors of one of the most
infamous camps of the period. Not much
was ever told about this period in our
history because the British and
Australian authorities of the time felt
that it would reflect badly on them (the
men) if word got out about the horrors
that ' their women of the Empire ' were
subjected to. This is possibly my
favourite role of all that I've played in
43 years as an actress. I also feel
honoured to tell the story of remarkable
women enduring some of the darkest times
in our history. I'm happy to report that
as a result of this year's successful
tour, we are mounting the same production
in early 2005 and once again Belinda
Giblin and I will take this award winning
play to the people of NSW.

Sorry about you
good people scattered across the
globe....maybe you'll have holidays then
and will seek me out.
On the
television front, it has also been too
too quiet, but by now my friends in
Australia and the U.K. will have seen the
Home & Away episodes which
were shot last year. Yes, how about
that? Another Prison!!! From the episodes
that you have seen so far, you will know
that my character is called The
Guv....for obvious reasons. However as
the plot thickens and I re appear (yes,
even in Summer Bay ) you will discover
that my name is Viv. So far my work has
been with the delightful Tammin Sursok
who plays Dani......but as we progress,
you will see me inter acting with an old
stalwart of the show...and a dear old
friend of mine, personally. More than
that I will not reveal......just wait and
see!
One bright
little moment in my otherwise dull life
was to 'put down' as they say in the
recording biz, a track with Todd Mckenney
on his new CD For those of you who aren't
familiar with Todd's work, he was the
creator of the role of Peter Allen in the
smash hit musical The Boy from Oz
and with an enormously successful career
in musical theatre he was also one of the
stars of Singin' in the Rain which
I had the great good fortune to do a
couple of years ago.
I'm afraid I
don't have much more to tell you this
time but as the year moves on I still
hold hopes to come to the U.K
again....havent a clue when, but I'd
dearly love to do a panto sometime and
then I'd be able to say Hi to all those
terrific fans who have supported me over
the years.
So, be happy
my dear friends and thank you once again
for your support.
Warmest good
wishes to you all.
Maggie
