In 2002 Prisoner finally made its debut on DVD, in Australia at least. Selected episodes were released on three discs covering 'The Early Years', 'The Terrorist Siege' and 'The End'. Each DVD consisted of four classic Prisoner episodes plus bonus material, such as exclusive cast member interviews etc. All three DVD's are available in a boxed set, which also includes a fold out poster. Maggie featured on the cover of 'The End' DVD.

2003 sees a second batch of Prisoner DVDs being made available in Australia. These comprise of 'The Beginning', 'On The Inside' and 'The Great Escape'. As with the first set each DVD contains four Prisoner episodes, plus exclusive bonus material, including rare photos.

Episode 166 
An early example of Prisoner at its best, this episode begins as an escape attempt by several inmates has gone horribly wrong; the underground tunnel through which they planned their escape has collapsed and they are trapped, buried alive... 

Episode 287 
The arrival of Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson, the officer we loved to hate, occurs in this episode from 1982. 

Episode 327 
A firm fan favourite, this episode centres around 'The Great Fire', a storyline from 1982 that sees Wentworth ravaged by fire with inmates trapped inside. 

Episode 400 
Top dog Bea Smith departs the series in dramatic fashion in this memorable episode from 1983.

Episodes 550, 551, 552 The Terrorist Seige 
A terrorist squad break into Wentworth to rescue the wife of a major crime boss. When their plan goes horribly wrong, the women are taken hostage and one will die every hour until the gunmen's demands are met. This set of episodes sees great performances from Anne Phelan, Maggie Kirkpatrick and Jackie Woodbourne to name a few.

Bonus Episode 536 
Set a few months prior to the terrorist siege, this episode features the inmates reminiscing about events from the early years of the programme and features clips of long-gone inmates like Bea Smith & Frankie Doyle.
 

Volume 3 : The End

Vicious Top Dog Lou Kelly (Louise Siversen) takes over the prison by force and begins her reign of terror with an execution, bashings, hostage-taking and an explosive fight-to-the-death between Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson (Maggie Kirkpatrick) and Rita Connors (Glenda Linscott). The 'Lou Kelly Riot' remains one of the most dramatic points in the series history. 

Episodes 691 & 692 The End 
This pair of episodes from 1987 brought Prisoner to a stunning conclusion. Top Dog Rita Connors is dying of cancer and seems to be plotting with The Freak. The inmates are worried; why is their most popular Top Dog colluding with their sworn enemy? Nothing will prepare them for the shock that follows...

Episode 247 & 248
Presented complete and uncut, these two episodes form the conclusion of the 'Sandy Edwards Riot' storyline. Two officers are trapped inside the prison when the inmates riot, forcing them to think on their feet or risk being used as bargaining tools - or worse.

Episode 586
Rita Connors' first full episode. Arriving in Wentworth, 'Rita The Beater', member of a leading biker gang, quickly makes enemies with Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson. Meanwhile guest star Lynda Stoner (playing Eve Wilder) shows her true colours when she viciously bashes Officer Joyce Barry whe nBarry overhears something she shouldn't have.

Episode 667
The conclusion to the dramatic Blackmoor Prison storyline. Rita leads the Blackmoor women to riot and two officers are taken hostage. Meanwhile back at Wentworth Kath has plans for her own protest.

Franky Doyle and Doreen Burns are on the run, and this episode sees the departure of the Franky Doyle character in a dramatic shoot out.

Episode 165
The inmates plan an escape through an underground tunnel during a children's pantomime performance. This episode was an end-of-the-year cliffhanger. (Episode 166 is available on 'PRISONER - The Early Years' for those who want to see what happens next.

Episode 471
Marie Winters notorious escape dangling from a helicopter (or is that perhaps a blow-up sex doll?) is one of the most talked about exits from the series.

Episode 598
Lexie Patterson makes a break for freedom in this episode. A serial killer is murdering prison escapees and he has Lexie firmly in his sights.

The DVD set will also feature a free promo postcard, featuring various character mugshots.
 

The first Prisoner DVD box set is now available in the UK. It was released in September 2003. This triple disc DVD digipack contains 12 episodes from the series, spanning the most memorable moments at Wentworth prison.

Volumes are "The Early Years", "The Terrorist Siege" and "The End", as the Australian release in 2002.

Extras are Clean end credits sequence, interviews with Val Lehman (Bea), Annie Phelan (Myra) and Jan Russ (Casting Director) plus a huge photo gallery.
