Founded: January 2004

20 November 2003 was the very first meeting, when Peet Mostert gathered a group of 15 enthusiastic photographers to his home, in Besembiesieweg Montana Park, Pretoria.  On this evening Magalies Foto Fun Club  was founded, named and a committee was chosen.

Peet initiated a wonderful opening evening to be held at Torbali Restaurant, Braam Pretorius Street on the 15 January 2004.  As Peet is a seasoned photographer, has the right contacts and knows all the wise guys from the good old days, we had a very good start and a good introduction into the Photo Club World.  Cor Rademeyeer from PSSA,  the Chairmen of various Photographic Clubs in Pretoria and our brand new club members were present.  The evening was a great success, with a delicious meal and good company, Ronel Cronjs Slide AV Bikers Dream and Karin van Nierops Slide AV Witsand were shown and are still imprinted on my memory!

We kicked off with the first Club Evening on 22 January 2004, also at Torbali, which was a perfect, cosy venue.  Fifteen members and eight guests attended.  Evelyn Gibson was our guest judge and speaker, and showed us her beautiful slides.  (Digital was only just surfacing at this time),  Toni Ballotta was the second judge on that evening.  The first Magalies Pix, which was photocopied, stapled and which consisted of four pages was edited by Narina Horn and Rona Swart.

March 2004 we had a logo competition, which Elske Barnard won and is still the logo we use today.  Also in March our first Digital Manipulated/Art Category was introduced.

July 2004, Prolab - Q-Photo sponsored the first Colour Cover page for the Magalies Pix, which has just grown better better with time!  Makes you realise that good things grow with time, and dont just happen overnight. Now Prolab-Q-Photo sponsor the complete Pix every month

July 2004 Magalies Foto Fun Club is affliated to Photographic Society of S A.

March 2005 we moved to the Wesleyan Church, as Torbali was sold.

Peet was Chairman, Cathy Jonker Vice Chairperson for 2004 & 2005.

We have had many wonderful people come and go, all having left their fingerprints (and photographic prints) on the history of MFFC.  At three years old, MFFC is still a Club in babyhood, PPS is seventy five, AFO is fifty five, and National Photographic Club eleven years old.

Now in 2007 we have 27 members.  Most of our members use digital cameras in Jan 2004 I doubt if any member owned a digital camera! Slides, film and prints were in, now digital, pixels, memory and laptops are in.what lies in the future?
