mAdnAnA:
Check out our gig pictures and the Madnana Timeline!
Latest news:
- Gort (Big-D) is a stud.
- Noah’s solo music page is still up, but he moved all his mp3s to ampcast.com/noahmadrano. Check them out to support this struggling artist! :)
- No other new news… it’s been
pretty slow. Noah just got a haircut,
and Dan has been giving drumming lessons to everyone and their dogs—and man
are there a lot of drumming dogs now! I
think that’s about all the news for now.
Who are they? Where can I find more information on each of the band members?
Vocals, guitar, kazoo Quote: “How the hell do you play a vocal?” Real
name: Noah. Plays guitar and
enjoys singing both in Madnana and in choirs. He writes his own songs, too. Since this picture was released, no one has talked to him. More about Noah and
his music. ampcast.com
NoMad:
Real
name: Derek. Plays guitar,
and is quite good at it. He is also
in choir, but prefers to sing either solo in school assemblies, or in
Madnana. He is also a mighty fine
songwriter. As you can tell, he
looks like a dork and sits like a dork. Although there is no other online information about him, you
can e-mail him at [email protected]. Guitar thingy, vocals Quote: “Dude!
That’s tight! We should do
that!”
Big-D
(aka Gort):

Keyboard, vocal Quote: “It’s not obsession, just guts to confession.” Real
name: Alisha. Plays
keyboard, and performs her own compositions. She also sings in the band, especially if it’s one of her own
songs. She has also played solo in
school assemblies. This picture courtesy
of GOLF Productions. I have no
idea what that means, you’ll have to ask her. More about
Coppola.
Coppola:

Drums, percussion, rhythm,
beat-keeper Quote: “Life's not too short to just sit around as long
as you're sittin’ behind a drum-set.” Real
name: Daniel. He’s the
drummer man. When not playing with
Madnana, he’s drumming out beats in his Christian rock band, Quality
Religion. Dan has since turned
missing. This is the last known
photograph of him. He was last seen
wearing a black hat. If you
happen to know his whereabouts, e-mail Dan at [email protected].
DrummerDan:

Have they recorded any
CDs?
No. However, we do have a live recording of “I Want You” from our Mister Gresham gig. You can download the whole song in MP3 format. We finally got the whole thing on our server, so if you have a fast connection, you might be able to get it. You can also try searching for it on Napster. Our user name is (surprise, surprise) Madnana.
For a shorter .wav clip, click here. (It’s not as great quality, but it’s quicker to download)
DEMOS:
Here is a clip of Noah’s recording, “What You Leave Behind”(clip) from his solo project. You can download the whole thing from ampcast.com.
Here’s Big-D fooling around with “Go Crazy”, with some dubbed vocals from Noah.
And, from Coppola’s sound collection, here is a clip of her solo demo recording of “Porchlight”.
And, at last, the full mp3 demo of “Driving on Empty” from the Noah Madrano solo project at ampcast.com.
Coming soon: Derek’s solo of “Star-Crossed Lovers”. Not to mention the Noah/Derek demo tape which was kinda recorded at Derek’s house with a small audience. This’ll be the basis for the possible upcoming Madnana album this summer.
What are their
influences? Who do they sound like?
Hmmm… influences… there’s an interesting question. All 4 of us come from different musical
backgrounds. Dan is big on Christian
Rock type stuff, whilst Alisha prefers everything from Classical to Eminem, but
mainly settles in the middle of the spectrum with Hanson. Noah is currently studying 18th
and 19th Century vocal music at U of Oregon, but is also a fan of
jazz, contemporary a cappella (like Rockapella), and alternative rock. Derek, on the other hand, listens to stuff
like Weezer—alternative rock and classic rock, stuff like that. Similar interests include Third Eye Blind,
Barenaked Ladies, and a lot of current mainstream stuff (which is reflected in
our set list). Collectively, we sound
like a band that combines all these sounds.
It’s hard to say what we really sound like. You be the judge.
What kind of songs do
they play? What’s in their set list?
Rock type of stuff. We’ve covered Third Eye Blind, Barenaked Ladies, and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack. We also do originals, written by Noah, Big-D, or Coppola.
Check out our latest set list:

Where do they
play? How can I set up a gig with them?
Here is the complete Madnana Timeline, listing all the important information throughout time.
3/14/00: Gresham High School’s Mister Gresham Competition – “I Want You”
GHS SpringFest 2000, 6/1/00: Performance was canceled at the last minute, but we had our songs ready. (Beyond our control)
6/1/00: GHS Choir concert – Noah sang “What You Leave Behind” solo acoustic!
12/16/00: GHS CC Santa Pancake Breakfast – Noah & Big-D duo acoustic: “Go Crazy”, BSB’s “Larger Than Life” (as a joke), “Star-Crossed Lovers” (“Driving on Empty” pulled at last minute) It was a blast!
1/26/01 (Sweetser band night): Sweetser Lounge-University of Oregon – Noah & Big-D duo acoustic featuring Mikey D on egg and squash: “Go Crazy”, “Star-Crossed Lovers”, “Fuck You”, and “An Ode to Masturbation”. It was a kick-ass performance, the audience loved us! If you missed it, you missed the best performance ever.
We’ll keep you informed on our latest gigs, but don’t expect anything until summer 2001. We temporarily have rehearsal difficulties (Noah lives 120 miles away from the rest of the band). If you really want to hear us this summer, e-mail me. We reside in Portland, and can play in the Eugene-Portland-Seattle areas.
What does their name
mean? How did each player get their
nickname?
Madnana is Noah’s nickname, derived from his last name, Madrano. We just thought it was cool, so that’s what we named the band. It’s better than The Garbage Bastards. (That was Big-D’s idea)
As for our individual names, they just came to us through a series of letterman jackets, stalking, and tall giraffes.
Where can I buy merchandise? What about getting a demo tape? Are there any fan clubs or e-mail lists I can get onto? Where can I find more information or ask any questions I may have?
You ask too many questions! But if you really do have a question, you can e-mail Madnana at [email protected]. If enough people want it, we’ll start up a newsletter or something. Although we haven’t gotten around to recording our sound yet, you might be able to purchase Alisha Coppola’s “You’re a Mystery” (featuring “Porchlight”, “No Time For You”, title track, and a special bonus track) if you ask her nicely. Or you can purchase Noah Madrano’s “Leave Him Behind” (featuring “What You Leave Behind”, “Driving on Empty”, “Carly”, “Another Friday Night”, and the infamous live recording of “I Want You”.) Other merchandise will be available once we make it big, and I’m sure the Coppola Clothing Company will supply our t-shirts. (Don’t forget to support Noah’s solo career by visiting www.ampcast.com/noahmadrano. He does get paid for every time a song is listened to, so check it out and help Madnana out.)
