MADNANA:
15 billion B.C.:
Big Bang. Objects form from gasses. Madnana has no gigs at this time.
0 BC/AD:
Jesus Christ is born. Instead of booking Madnana, the Virgin Mary chooses a little drummer boy instead.
October 15, 1981:
Noah is born. The world begins its slow spiral downward.
September 9, 1983; March-May 1984; June 12, 1984:
The remainder of Madnana is born at various times throughout the year. Big-D’s mom is the first human to give birth to a giraffe. DrummerDan was drummin’ in the uterus, and it took him 3 whole months to be born! Coppola came out happy and singing!
September 9, 1999:
Derek’s Sweet 16. Noah attempts to play the chords to “It’s All Been Done” (D, G, Em, A) on Derek’s electric guitar, as Big-D and other friends sing along. Karoke continues through-out the night. Big-Derek gets his first kiss.
October 1999:
Derek plays “Crystal” at the Homecoming assembly. Soon afterwards, Noah and Derek have their first jam session together, putting together BNL’s “Call and Answer” (poorly). It was never performed. Although, Derek did play “Go Crazy” for the first time.
November 22, 1999-March 29, 2000:
Noah and Alisha date. During this time they have a musical interaction, which eventually brings her to play piano in the band.
Late February-March 2000:
Derek auditions to play in the GHS fashion show 2000. Although he didn’t know it, he was also auditioning for Mister Gresham 2000. As a result, Noah and Derek decided to form a duo to play as an in-between act. They add Dan to play drums, and after a long “decision-making rehearsal”, decided to cover Third Eye Blind’s “I Want You”. The next day, Alisha joins to complete the quartet.
March 13, 2000:
After several rehearsals in the band room after school, Madnana publicly rehearses for the first time for the technical rehearsal of Mister Gresham. Besides the fact that both Noah and Derek cracked several times, and their guitars were out of tune, it went horrible. The sound-check guy stopped them about 2 minutes into the song with, “Thank you, I think we have the sound levels now.”
March 14, 2000:
Mister Gresham performance. Madnana’s debut performance. After 2 or 3 other (sucky) bands played during the 2 hour pageant, Madnana played last, right before Mister Gresham 2000 was announced. (BTW, our performance wasn’t part of the competition.) [NoMad: Silvertone half-size, tan Herco Flex50 nylon pick (#1), Fender small amp, yellow sunglasses. Big-D: Acoustic, pick, Fender personal amp, cap. Coppola: Roland KR-55, w/pedal, GHS Stage Band bass amp, Nike sweatgear. DrummerDan: Pre-QR drumset, glasses.]
April 2000:
Noah and Derek jam in Ashland during the State Acting Competition (which they won 1st Place in Group Musical Theater!) Derek sings “Star-Crossed Lovers” for the first time as Noah adds harmonies and other vocals.
May 2000:
Noah and Big-D contact Travis (organizer) about playing in Gresham’s SpringFest 2000. He said he could hook us up once he talked to the supervisors. So Madnana rehearse after a 2 month break. Derek officially gets the nickname “Big-D” for “Big-Dorkus”! (actually, it means “Big-Derek”, duh.) They scrapped “I Want You”, and considered adding songs like “It’s All Been Done”, “Jumper”, “Do Right”, and “Better Days”. During a rehearsal in Derek’s basement, Derek presents “Star-Crossed Lovers”, “Stop Smokin’ Crack!”, and “(When I See You) I Go Crazy”. Noah presented “Driving on Empty”, part of “Life Goes On”, and “What You Leave Behind”. Alisha presented “Hello” and “Porchlight”. Dan presented some kick-ass beats.
Later rehearsals at Dan’s were long and un-productive, but finally the set was ready to perform.
June 1, 2000:
Day of SpringFest 2000. The day before, they had talked to Travis again, and he completely forgot about Madnana. Since the supervisors in charge were never informed about any band playing, they said it would be unlikely that it would happen. Madnana went to SpringFest with high hopes, but unfortunately they were not able to play. The abandoned set-list was as follows:
“It’s All Been Done” – by Barenaked Ladies
“Driving on Empty” – by Noah Madnana
“Star-Crossed Lovers” – by Big Derek
“Porchlight” – by Alisha Coppla
“I Go Crazy” – by Big Derek
“Do Right” – by Jimmie’s Chicken Shack (actually, it was only Dan drumming while Derek played solo electric and Noah sang, and Alisha just lookin’ cool)
“What You Leave Behind” – by Noah Madnana
Later that evening, at Noah’s final Concert Choir concert, Noah performs “What You Leave Behind” solo, while Derek listened from the audience. “I could tell he wanted to jump up on stage and sing along with me.”
Summer/Fall 2000:
In June, Noah finished his solo CD, “Leave Him Behind”, featuring both “What You Leave Behind” and “Driving on Empty”, as well as other songs like “Bitchimus Maximus”, “Carly”, and “Life Goes On”. Both Noah and Alisha worked over the summer, and Dan spent time with his Christian rock band, Quality Religion (which played in August). The band is officially declared as “broken up”, since Noah left for college in September. However, Noah visited in October, and was going to play “I Go Crazy” with Derek as a duo at the Concert Choir retreat. Unfortunately, that never happened. But as winter break arrived, Noah and Derek discussed jamming and playing a few gigs.
December 16, 2000:
Noah and Derek perform at GHS Concert Choir’s Santa Pancake Breakfast. Alisha wanted to play, but there was no time for her to rehearse with the new changes in the acoustic duo arrangements. They had 3 songs planned, with little “song segments” in-between each song, but they got cut short on time. Here’s the set-list:
“Go Crazy” – with a new solo at beginning by Noah, and new harmony vocals (Noah & Derek switched voice parts so that Noah sang the chorus and Derek sang the verse)
“Larger Than Life” – Noah busts out into the first verse/chorus of the BSB song, but Derek stops him.
“Star-Crossed Lovers” – no major changes.
(“Silent Night” – Derek’s wild electric rock version)
(“Driving on Empty” – cut from performance)
NOTE: Since this was the first public performance of these songs, positive feedback came rolling in.
January 2001:
Hanging out at Derek’s house one night with some friends. They asked Noah to play his solo song “Carly” (of course Carly was present at the time), as well as the “Go Crazy” song, which people said was “catchy”. Noah played Derek’s acoustic while they both sang “Go Crazy”, then Noah went straight into “Carly” (they both have same tempo, and start & end on G.)
December 2000/January 2001:
Alisha finished her new tape, “You’re a Mystery”, with the assistance of Noah’s keyboard and her uncle’s 4-track recording system. Features “Porchlight”, “Hello”, “No Time for You”, etc. She begged Noah to make her tape a CD, but he has yet to do that.
January 22, 2001:
An e-mail from Big-D to the rest of the band, after being psyched up about the popularity of “Go Crazy” and people saying that he should record it:
From: “Piss Pants”Date: Mon, 22 Jan 2001 21:05:28 –0800To: Noah, Danny, AlishaSubject: Let’s record.
The time has come, I've decided, that we record a CD. We've got enough music between the four of us. I say we get together, first thing of the Summer, practice day and night for a week, then rent a studio for a couple of days and make a professional CD. Then we can sell it or send a demo to wherever or whatever. Hell, we could just send a demo to some radio stations. That would kick ass. Then we could maybe get some gigs around, probably make some money. We could play at clubs or bars and stuff. Then sell the drunks our CD's! That'd teach the bastards! So, that's what we're doing this Summer. You're either with me or you're dead.
Big-D.
January 26, 2001:
Noah and Derek play acoustic at the Sweetser Hall band night. Derek and friend Mike happened to be in town for an acting workshop, and they took the opportunity to play a quick set later in the evening (it was a four hour event total). Mikey D played egg and squash and sang along at times while Noah and Derek sang “Go Crazy” and “Star-Crossed Lovers”. Next Derek played a hard-rock style song called “Fuck You” while the trio improvised kick-ass harmonies while only singing “fuck you!” Noah sang high notes he never knew he could hit. He followed that up with his “Ode to Masturbation” solo song while Big-D and Mikey D sang at the end. It was a great performance, and the audience seemed to love the set. Afterwards, the three got into a frat party and had a great night! (BigD also earns the name of Gort… it’s a long story)
February 17, 2001:
Noah launches his solo career with the first public release of full mp3 files – songs like “Carly”, “Childish Rumors”, “What You Leave Behind”, “Driving on Empty” and others.
Spring 2001:
Each member continues separate projects: Dan’s Quality Religion; Noah’s performances at the Buzz Café; Alisha’s version of “Never You Mind” at Mr Gresham; and Gort teams with MikeyD for “Star Crossed Lovers” at Mr Gresham.
Summer 2001:
Madnana will most likely (nothing positive yet) record a CD of about 10 songs. What they plan to do with that CD is… well… that’s their secret. (It’ll debut at #42,069 on the Billboard Top 200)
2002:
Madnana takes over the planet, and force the people to play their music at all times. Aliens visit Earth, find no intelligence here, and destroy us all.
2013:
Noah goes bald.
