West Laval's Premier Dog Park

You are totally responsible for your dog while inside the enclosure.

Be prepared to put your dog on-leash, muzzled or outside, if he interferes with other dogs or people.

Laval police have already issued tickets to negligent owners. Be advised !

The Chomedey off-leash area is OPEN in winter ....... Even if it snows we MUST continue to pick up after our pets.......Aggresive dogs must be muzzled

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace." -- Milan Kundera

Chomedey Dog Park, Dog Heaven

Chomedey off-leash is located in Southwest Laval, bordered by Blvd Ntre-dame to the south and Montgolfier to the west. A fenced, open area under the hydro transmission towers has become a popular place for dogs and their owners to exercise, socialize, play and learn. IT IS DOGGY HEAVEN!

There is ample parking on Montgolfier. Enter the Dog Park through a double entry gate at the southeast Montgolfier entrance, or the double gate on the northeast side. There are approximately 50-100 visitors weekly. You and your pet will find friendly people and dogs, benches, and occasional balls and toys. Plastic bags are provided by the owners of the dogs, so you are always ready to clean up after your dog. There is a garbage can on the site, strategically located for your convenience. We are presently arranging a message kiosk, drinking water and lighting, to be provided by the City of Laval.

Positive Attributes of Chomedey Off-Leash Area:

Expands the neighborhood and builds a sense of community A safe place for dogs to exercise and socialize with other dogs and people. Previously unused hydro area has been maintained by and used daily by dog owners! Creates responsible dog owners Socialized dogs make better neighbors Many have chosen to exercise their dogs legally off-leash as a daily use of this unused land. Local realtors report that people are buying houses in the area to live in close proximity to the off-leash area. Community involvement and fun activities for the dogs and their owners are being planned. A fun . . . stress reducer for everyone!

DOGGIE DO'S and DON'TS

- Leave the area cleaner than when you arrived.

We are responsible for our dog's behavior! !

- Each one of us is legally and financially liable for our dog's behavior.

Dogs' license ( LAVAL )and vaccinations must be current.

- Unvaccinated dogs, especially puppies, are vulnerable to disease and parasites.

For our children's' safety, we must closely supervise them.

- Remember; dogs will chase a running child.

Do not bring food into the dog park.

- Carry dog treats at your own risk.

Respect our dog park stewards' suggestions. They have our, and our dog's best interests in mind.

Suggestions of Things to Come...

Park benches and tables
Shelter with concrete pad. A large metal sign, possibly arching, with the words: "Chomedey
Off-Leash Area" or "Chomedey Dog Park" Decorated trash cans (painted) Ornamental shrub/flower beds on both sides of the entrance gates-these are areas that are very difficult to mow. Some way of memorializing dogs (living & not). Other projects have done etched pavers or rocks (in walls), trees, etc. Fencing for small dog/puppy area. (Think we could put this outside of the south fence as part of our "expansion"?) Agility course equipment. (We would need to store this when not in use at the dog park) Education - Dog related guest speakers & organizations, ie. Animal behaviorists, vets (standard & homeopathic), Different breed rescue orgs, Animal shelter, Animal Control, Humane Society, trainers, nutritionists, etc. This could be a regularly scheduled event-specific time & day of month.

We need YOUR help!

Chomedey Dog Park needs a few good people to act as stewards when they visit the park. Stewards primarily educate dog owners about the park and it's rules.
