Angel tries, but fails to apologise to a demon information broker, Merl. When he next tries again, he finds Merl dead in his home, and so the team begin to investigate. When tracking down Merl's enemies and contacts, Angel Investigations discover a whole trail of murdered demons, of both harmless and dangerous kinds. Gunn however, realises that the people responsible are from his old gang.

Gunn tries to talk to his old friends, but realises he is having no effect. Later, when Wesley, Cordelia and Fred are in the bar, with Fred singing, Gunn tries to talk to Wesley about the rogue demon hunters, but before this can happen, the bar is invaded by the gang, and many demons are shot.

With hostages everywhere, Gunn is questioned, and Cordelia sent to bring back Angel. The gang simply can't understand the distinction between demons that are fully integrated into society, and those that are simply out to kill. Angel comes to confront the group, whilst Cordelia visits the women who keep out demon violence from the bar, in an attempt to lift the spell and allow Angel to fight.

Angel Investigations succeed, but at great cost. Many innocent demons, as well as members of the gang lose their lives. Later Wesley tells Gunn that in future, he must be completely honest from the start, or Gunn will not be allowed to work at the agency anymore.
