After the lawyers are left for dead, it turns out that Lindsey and Lilah were spared. Back at Angel Investigations, Angel, now alone, prepares for battle, training himself up after years of enjoying human comforts. Darla and Drusilla however, are on the loose, and go to Wolfram and Hart. There they explain why they spared the two lawyers, telling them they want communications kept open.
Angel tries to track down Darla and Drusilla. To do this, he hangs Merl, an information broker, upside down in the sewers until he gets answers. He learns that the two vampires are meeting to create an army of demons.

Back at Cariatos, the three sacked members of Angel's team decide to sing, and try to sort out their lives. They no longer no what to do. After some serious arguing they get up and sing together. However, it does nothing as they have to leave and solve a vision Cordelia has of a girl in trouble. At Wolfram and Hart, Lilah realises one of the two survivors will be blamed, and the other promoted, so tries to trick Lindsey, but fails.
Wesley, Gunn and Cordelia get to the alley where the attack took place, and follow the demon from there. They defeat it, and take the girl to hospital (and Wesley who was injured during fighting). They won though, so perhaps they will continue the fight alone, keeping the agency open.
Angel gets to the newly recruited demon army before Darla and Drusilla arrive for their meeting, and he defeats them all, leaving a pile of corpses for Darla and Drusilla. That isn't all though, he sets the pair on fire when they arrive, apparently not to kill, but to warn or torture. He really is beginning to slip towards darkness, but is that just what is needed to defeat two of the most famous vampires in history?
We later learn that Lilah and Lindsey will both become "joint acting co-vice presidents" in special projects. Neither was considered to have a spotless record, but together the two seem to push eachother well, and will do so until the firm decides to streamline things. Finally Wesley briefly visits Angel to tell him they will keep the investigations running, but Angel ignores this, deciding to fight the war, not just the usual fight.
