Just as Doyle prepares to ask Cordelia out, he gets a vision of several demons hiding somewhere. Together with Angel, he goes to the house they are hiding in, and, upon finding warm food there, begin to search the house. They find the demons hidden beneath the floorboards.
When they realise Angel is there to help them, they believe that he is the "Promised One", a being sent to free them from their enemies, and let them start new and enjoyable lives on an island near Ecuador. Angel promises to help them, and gets Cordelia to bring over a truck.

Angel finds out that the enemy of these peaceful demons is the Scourge, a group of pure demons that goes round killing any being that has humanity within. Any demon that is not pure will be killed when this evil group reaches them. Doyle tells Angel of a past experience he had with these demons, and the fact that he did nothing to help those who needed him. This time, he won't make the same mistake.
Cordelia arrives with the truck to take the demons to the nearest port, and Angel, cashing in on a debt, manages to secure safe passage. However, before they leave, a young demon who doesn't believe in Angel decides to leave and make his own way. He is nearly captured by the Scourge, but is saved by Doyle.
Angel then turns up, and in an attempt to get more information, pretends to join the Scourge. He admits to having humanity inside him (as he is a vampire, the lowest of the cross breeds), but convinces them to let him join, after all, he could really help them. Here he learns of the device they will use to kill the escaping demons.
Fortunately, Angel gets to the boat before them, but only just. As a result, they are all locked inside the tanker, and the device designed to kill all humanity is lowered in through a cargo hatch. It begins to explode, and Angel prepares to sacrifice himself to get close enough and shut it down. Doyle though, punches Angel, and does it himself, destroying the machine, and redeeming himself completely.
Before he does that though, he has something to do. He kisses Cordelia, and passes on his visions, the greatest gift he has.
