As the episode begins, Darla is starting to feel the weight of her soul. With every minute that passes, she remembers more and more of what she did, and those memories become harder and harder to accept. Angel is also struggling with his feelings, sat at home obsessed with Darla.
Much of the episode is spent reliving the past, with flashbacks to 1609 when Darla was first made into a vampire by the Master, and then more memories of 1760 where she chose Angelus over the Master.

We later goes see how they met Drusilla, and later on how Angelus was given a soul, and what the consequences of this were, and how Darla treated him. (To see a brief history, click the link to the left).
Back in the present day, Cordelia, with her acting skills, manages to find out where Darla (her pretend sister) is living. As the sun is out, Wesley and Gunn go there first to check it out, but find the place in ruins. Angel explains that this is the weight of Darla's soul, and the fact that she has to face her own reflection, hence the smashed mirrors.
Darla tries to escape from Wolfram and Hart, but she is forced to play a game. Holland Manners has his pieces moving how he wants with Lindsey genuinely trying the help Darla escape, making Angel and Darla believe that when they are finally reunited, it hasn't been a ploy by Wolfram and Hart... but it is. They need Angel to help save Darla's soul.
Darla comes to the hotel with Angel, here Angel will try to protect her, but Darla wants Angel to turn her, which he will not do.
