Angel returns to the hotel, willing to wait for his son to return of his own accord. Meanwhile, Steven and Holtz get a room in a hotel, and here Holtz learns that only days have passed since they left, despite more than 15 years passing in the hell dimension. Fred, using a combination of her scientific knowledge, and some special items brought in by Lorn, manages to create a tracking device to locate beings that have travelled from the hell dimension. Its not very advanced, but clicks more rapidly as it gets nearer to a source.

Wesley receives an e-mail from an unknown sender, and is asked to meet later that night at a club. Back at the Hyperion, Steven arrives home, to talk with his true father. An awkward silence is broken though by a vision Cordelia gets of a girl being attacked by vampires. Together, Angel and his son go to the club to help the girl.

At the club, Wesley meets Lilah, and they see Justine, the woman responsible for slitting Wesley's throat, being attacked by vampires. However, Angel and Steven arrive to take out the enemy, and allow Justine to escape. Afterwards, father and son playfight in the alley outside, before Steven leaves again, and goes back to Holtz.

Holtz tells him to go back to Angel though, that this is his destiny, to be with his real father. Steven does so, but back at the hotel, the group have figured out that its Holtz who came through the portal after Steven. Steven also finds out that Cordelia is part demon, and tries to kill her. Cordelia, using her new found demon power, stops him, and cleanses him of the poison infecting him from his time in the hell dimension.

With Steven now feeling much better, Fred and Gunn take him to see the ocean, whilst Angel goes to find Holtz. Once there, Angel doesn't kill Holtz, but agrees to deliver a letter to Steven, whilst Holtz leaves never to be seen again. Steven however, overhears Gunn and Fred talking, and rushes to Holtz to try and help him, but arrives to late.

Justine, continuing her misguided work, carries on what Holtz wanted, killing Holtz and making it look like it was a vampire bite from Angel. The ultimate revenge over Angel was not guided by hate, but by love for Steven.
