A demon, but a happy friendly one, "The Host" is the being responsible for running Cariatos, a demon sanctuary and Karaoke bar where demons or even people can come to the bar and sing to the audience. This bears their souls, allowing the host to read them, and help them find their true path of destiny. He soon crosses paths with Angel, and is a great help during Angel's great period of darkness, often giving Angel useful advice, and helping him on the path to forgiveness. He gets caught up with Angel Investigations though when an interdimensional portal is opened in his bar. He goes with Angel and friends when they search for Cordelia, stranded at the other end of the portal.

Back on his homeworld, Pylea, we learn that The Host is actually Lorn (for short), and he had many family problems. He was not a hunter, not a black and white being, but an admirer of art, music, and other things completely unappreciated on that world. When he left down the portal, he had liked Los Angeles so much has had stayed, but now he has to return and see his family again.

After helping Angel and friends return to Los Angeles, Lorn is much closer to the group, and a mutual partnership begins, with each party often turning to help from one another. When Cariatos is blown up, (twice) Lorn becomes a house guest at the hotel, and is also very helpful in dealing with the baby Connor. However, when Connor returns grown up, Lorn feels in the way, and leaves.
