Connor's parents are Darla and Angel, so you know that there has to be something special about this kid. Given that its impossible for vampires to produce a child, something mystical has happened, though as yet nobody seems to know if this is the powers of good or evil who are responsible. Connor was "born" in an alley, just outside Cariatos, shortly after the bar was blown up by Holtz. He was released really, rather than born, as Darla stakes herself to set the child free. He is then carried away in the pouring rain, with Holtz looking on, planning an alternate future for the boy.

As a baby, Connor seems to connect with Angel well, and in fact seems to find Angel's vampire form most relaxing. However, before he really gets a chance to grow up, Wesley, interpreting a prophecy, steals Connor from Angel, and tries to take him away. However, he is intercepted by Justine. Justine takes Connor to Holtz, and Holtz escapes with him into the worst of the hell dimensions. We find out little about his time there, although he clearly becomes a strong and worthy fighter under the harsh environment. He then returns many years later as a teenager, but things have changed.

Only days have passed for the people at Angel Investigations, but now Connor is back, much older, but more worryingly, with a grudge against Angel. Holtz had become Connor's father, and had named him Steven. Now Steven returns with rage and hate directed at Angel after all the stories he has been told by Holtz.
