Jamboree in Thailand 2002/2003

 

                             

INFRASTRUCTURE

     National Scout Organization of Thailand, and Physical Education Department, Ministry of Education have received approval from the Royal Thai Navy to use the area at Tumbon Sa-mae-san, Chonburi province where Sattahip harbor is situated, for the site of the 20th World Scout Jamboree to be held in Thailand in 2003. The area covers an area of 7,000 rai or approximately 2,800 acres (1 acres is equivalent to 2.5 rai) or 1,200 hectare.

Construction Design Under the Culture-intermingled Concept

     The Master Plan has been designed in accordance with the theme of 20th World Scout Jamboree, Share our World, Share our Cultures. In realizing the theme, a common area has been used to link all scout villages together, providing the scout participants an opportunity to get to know one another and spend time together. This common area will be also serve as a central arena, which will attract everyone to enjoy recreation and leisure activities of their own choice. The scouts' camping area consisting of four villages : A B C D designed so that Village A faces B, and Village C faces D, while all villages are connected by Chao Phraya Avenue. Each village is divided in 6 sub-camps.

     Bangkok Plaza, considered as a symbol ie centre of the campsite, has been created to link all scout villages together. There will be also additional areas, which will be on the space located between Village A-B, and between Village C-D. The area will be used as a center for learning, and exchanging knowledge and experience.

Major temporarily constructed buildings in the Jamboree Site

     
Inside the Jamboree site, there is a space being allocated for the world Jamboree's activities. Facilities in each campsite will include water supply, electricity, telephone, and disposal system. The provision of all these facilities will ensure the quality of the camping experience for the scouts from all over the world.

Major temporarily structures in the camp include:

1.
Central Arena - located south of the reservoir, it iss reserved for holding special events, such as the Opening, Closing and Inter-Religious Ceremonies, and a New Year's Eve Gathering. The arena is a wide open area, capable of accommodating approximately 30,000 participants.

2. Villages - The villages A, B, C and D will be the camping area for the scouts. They will form two huge circles with a major street, Chao Phraya Road running through the middle of each campsite.

3. The Global Development Village - this village is created in an attempt to provide the scouts with an opportunity to participate in activities, and to practice skills needed for the world's changing environment.

4. City of Science - the scouts will enjoy simple explorations and experiments, aimed at helping them learn how to find out the responses for scientific and technological inquiries by them selves.

5. Crossroads of Cultures - it is opened for the scouts to learn diverse cultures and traditions from around the globe.

6. Prayer Valley - it is a quiet place suitably arranged for international scouts to have a quiet time, praying and practicing their religious and spiritual commitments.

7. International Press Center - for the use of journalists : the center consists of the following media outlets:

- PR Office, which will coordinate between Press Management Staff and other Departments Head to be interviewed.

- Conference Room, a room reserved for a press conference within the camp.

- Jam Newspaper, which will publish up to 30,000 newspapers copies to be distributed daily to the participants inside the Jamboree campsite.

- Radio Station: it will be on air in the three official languages at specific times morning, afternoon and evening during the World Scout Jamboree.

- Young Correspondent: this is a facility to enable young scout reporters to send the news from the camp back to their home country.

- Interpretation Pool: an office for interpreters and translators, who will assist all functions at the international Press Center.

- Photographers Pool

- Web Master Room

- Press Room

- Internet Zone

8. IST Village - located on the westside of the main Jamboree site, this village is reserved for the International Service Team.

9. Cafeteria - two eating areas will be arranged for international service team (IST) One area is located on the west side near IST Village, and the other is on the east side near Jamhotel.

10. Jamhotel - there will be tents available for Heads of Contingents, Contingent staff, special guests, and the foreign press to rent.

11. Jam Hospital - it is available for emergencies such as sickness or accidents which may occur among participants during their stay.

12. Sawasdee center - a small center served as the information and lost & found center within the camp in the campsite.

13. Office Building - it will house different offices, for examples , The World Scout Jamboree office ; World Scout Bureau and Risk Management office

14. Scout Shop - this will serve as the souvenir shop of the World Scout Organization of the Scout Movement.

15. World Scout Center - a center is for holding exhibitions aimed at presenting scouting from all over the world.

16. Reception Area - it will be used to welcome special guests, Heads of Contingents and the press. The reception area must be reserved in advance.

18. Supermarket - there will be four supermarkets, each of which is located in front of each of the four scouts' camping areas. Contingents well be able to collect their food and provisions from the supermarket every day.

19. Bird Eyes Pavilion - a viewing point located south west of IST Village, from where visitors will be able to view the jamboree campsite.
