| I came to Hangzhou on Oct 11 2001. From the start I was very surprised about how modern the city was and ... how many bikes were all around me. Thousands, millions of them. Honestly I have never seen so many bikes in one place. I haven't seen so many of them even at a bike store. Anyway, back to the city itself. I liked it. It is very beutiful and not very expensive. There is a good tourism industry and people are generally nice to foreginers. Although the pollution is great, the West Lake and other tourist sites are beautiful and definitely worth visiting. Local cusine has a lot to offer. Food usually differ from restaurant to restaurant. But mainly you can eat noodles, many kinds of dumplings, nian gao, vegetables, meats, and for dessert sweet bean soup and sweet lotus root.Below are photos showing streets of Hangzhou.
