Bleeckers

East Coast Bleeckers
First families of "New Amsterdam (Albany,New York)
Jan Jansen Bleecker came from the Netherlands at the age of 17, to New York, (1658) you can read the full story of the East Coast Bleecker. (go to Bleecker main page and read Maitland Bleekers story from his book
"My American Family" ) or read "FIRST FAMILIES", by "Cholly Knickerbocker", written in the early thirties from The New York Herald Tribune.
Jan Jansen started as a fur trader, in Albany. He is named in the founding charter of Albany of 1686. The original charter signed by King James still hangs in Albany. He was named mayor of Albany in 1700. He accumulated land holdings which included land that was called "Saratoga" (yes the battle of Saratoga was fought on lot #11 of Bleecker Land)
This history is very rich and well documented.
It appears that Anthony Lisperand Bleecker was one of the first stock brokers on the New York Stock Exchange. He was also a friends with George Washington (our first president)
Bleecker street in New York City was named after him, as this was originally his land.

West Coast Bleeckers
First families of California

Six generations descendent from Jan Jansen Bleeker was Anthony W. Bleecker, he had a son called John R. Bleecker. It is documented within a ship passenger list and "Index to ArgoNaughts" , that he left New York and traveled around the horn on the ship "John Enders". He along with many others left New York for California for the Gold Rush in January 19,1849. Read Richard Danas story (see Bleecker main page) his trip travelled the same route as the Jon Enders (this is probably the same story as if John Bleecker would have told the story himself).
This ship sailed for San Fransico, it also stopped at San Diego, But it was a small port back then and they stopped there for Furs and Food.
John R. Bleecker ended up in San Diego, He was a business man and owned land where the current San Diego Rail Depot is located. In the book
"The Silver Dons" (author Richard F. Pourade) it mentions John R Bleeckers property was located 5 miles west of "old town" at the site of the current U.S navy's refueling depot. It mentions there were 4 dilapidated hide houses, four stores, a ramshackle, custom house, and a hotel all located at the waters edge.  He operated a store at this site  His land the current San Diego Rail Depot was taken by eminent domain; (loretta Lewis has letters from John R. on this matter).
The San Diego Historical Society has letters from John R Bleecker to R. Morse , relating to land, leasing, sales and dealing with the Vanderbilts, as they were taking his land by eminent domain for the new Railroad that would connect the east with the west..
The Wells Fargo was just established in California this Year 1860 and it is mentioned in these letters the problem he was having with the mail

John Lucero Bleecker was the son of John R. Bleecker and Maria Sacramento Lucero
He also became a business man, he left San Diego and started a trading business in Silverado Canyon, Orange County, He traded wood.. Eleanor Chavez hs the leather bound register of his holdings and inventory.
John L Bleecker married Concepcion Williams. Concepcion was half Luiseno Indian.
The Indians are from the San Luis Rey Mission area. ( I am a registered Luiseno indian 1/64, I am the last Generation blood line)
They later moved to Anaheim.
Margaret Bleecker was the daughter of John L Bleecker and she married Santos Carrisosa Jr.

Carrisosa Family ( First Families of Los Angeles California)
Santos Carrisosa owned the
first Gym In Anaheim.  Santos Carrisosas family can be traced back to the Ontiveros family, who owned Anaheim and Placentia ranchos. When the Ranchos were annexed to US in 1850, Ontiveros had a hard time proving his land grant and sold his land (3,900 acres) to the Langenberger, who later sold to Kraemer's, the other acreage sold to Abel Stearns. This is well documented on the Carrisosa page. This same family can be traced back to the 2 of the original 11 families that founded Los Angeles and they were in the Portola Expedition (Perez,Moreno,Rodriguez,Noriega). (The descendents are called Los Pobladores).
(See California History)

Chavez Family
Benjamin Agapito Chavez is the son of Alexander (Turreita) Chavez and Everista Holquin of Belen New Mexico. Everistas family can be traced all the way back to Spain with the family name Vigil 1790. Alexander was adopted by a family called Chavez, his original family name was Turrieta (per family stories).
Ben grew up in Boyle Heights Los Angeles and this is where he met Eleanor Chavez, They now live in Newport Beach , California with their family
