Journal Page Summer 2008

June 2008 - The divorce is complete, work on the Ghia is back on.  A week of vacation from the 16th through the 20th provided a kick to get started.  The undercoating is finally off the car from the front of the transmission tunnel all the way to the panel under the taillights.

Ha!  Ford missed some painting in 1978!  The area just under the taillight panel has several areas without black paint...instead, the tan primer is visible.  Its likely that this whole area would be rusted if not for the undercoat.  Still, my 1978 Mustang II has far better paint coverage than the 1965 Mustang that I had back in high school.

July 2008 - Found a few small spots of hidden undercoating and removed it.  Sanded each of the (mostly small) patches of rust and sprayed with rust neutralizer, cleaned again with brake cleaner, then painted with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator.  I'll hit each spot with a little black enamyl paint, then it's on to the wheelwells!  I've actually installed ONE restored part (the transmission crossmember) and one replacement part (the transmission rubber mount).  The wheelwells are gonna be a bit of a bear though...

August 2008 - Not nearly so much done this month as last...just some more cleaning of hidden bits of undercoating and some more small rust spot sanding.  It seems like I find another spot of undercoating every time I get under the car.  It may be due to both the car paint and the undercoating being black!
