The Fire
The fire. The flames were hot. Too hot. They burned you, from
the inside out. They left behind within you ashes and despair.
Utter worthlessness.
You hate the worthlessness, the despair. You feel so
hypocritical. The fire was great; you burned for God. In his name
you worked, and you had usefulness. You felt you were
accomplishing something.
Then it was too much; the heat became too great. The fire you
cherished consumed you. Now, the feelings of depression have set
in. Where has God gone? The wonder has turned to bitterness. The
questioning begins anew.
You hate this depression. You know you are better than this; did
not the fire burn within you not long ago? Did you not do great
things in Jesus' name?
You want to walk away. You want to leave, and rejoin the world.
But you don't want to rejoin the world.
Then the fire is ignited; there is always a spark. Sometimes the
spark is a convention; sometimes it is a retreat; sometimes it is
a single person.
The fire is worth the ashes. The fire is greater than the ashes.
Let the fire of Christ burn within you.
