Lyng Web Site is Back on Line

After a long period of absence, The web site is to be revamped and updated regularly.  Make this your first point of call for village news.

The Floods are back

After a sustained period of wet weather, the water levels have risen, given rise to the flood plains around Lyng being overwhelmed.,  There is currently about 10 feet of water on the moors, which means that Cuts Road and New Road are completely under water, and everyone in the village is waiting with baited breath for the next major rainfall to see if the spillway goes over and we are cut off on three sides, all but an island again.

Looking for your ancestors?

As you may be aware, the webmaster has an interest in all things local and historic and classes yesterday as history.  While trawling through the normal huge amount of e-mails, most of which are unsolicited, she was invited to take a look at GenesConnected, an offshoot of Friends Reunited, which has seen such fabulous success in the last 12 months.

GENEOLOGY   If you are looking for ancestors born in Lyng or Outwood, please leave a message in the Guest Book below.

If you would like to get others to help you trace ancestors try the site above. The site was found recently and paternal links have already traced back to 1790 with Thomas Stubbs from Cheshire, just using the links found on the GenesConnected site.

Lyng School

While on the subject of reunions, why not pop along to Friends Reunited  and register Lyng School. Be the first to put your name proudly to Lyng School, you never know who you might end up corresponding with!

Hot off the press.... Take a look at the Parrett Trail by Athelney Farm.    Tim Morgan the landowner has opened a permissive path in order that we may all get a closer look at the Alfred MonumentThe Parrett Trail has more information.

'On The Level'

We will use extracts from our highly successful book, ON THE LEVEL, written by local author Geoff Treasure, to illustrate life in our small Somerset village, over the last 100 years up to the present day.
