Make an Italian Floor Cloth...and Much More.

Make a butterfly, kitchen rooster, or a wildly impressionistic masterpiece.  We'll study how to draw what you see, colors, and how to go beyond what you see to get really creative.  The process takes many steps over several days, and we'll also have time along the way for lots of fun.

Italian floorcloths are a great art project to make, and when you are done, your art can go on the floor of your room or on a wall.
Other artists create wild patterns for their floor cloths. Each of the floorcloths shown is made from a 4'X4' piece of canvas, although they can be any size.
Here students finish an art class with a delicious Italian meal! Don't be surprised if you also pick up a few words of Italian in the process.

Classes can be designed for all ages, from very young through adult. See some of Gloria's floor cloths
here.
The floorcloth process takes several days to add layers and colors.  We enjoy other art and learning activities while each layer dries.

The final product can be walked on!
We also studied some of the creative process used by artists like Chihuly, as this "squirted paint" floorcloth shows.
Some artists select a subject like turtles or spiders or cats.  At left the young artist created two amazing sea turtles.  In the process they also learned the sketching process and visualization.
