What are Merfolk?
Isn't this a cute mermaid picture to the left? That, friends, would be a mermaid. Merfolk (mermaids for females, mermen for males) are creatures that have the upper body of a human, and from the waist on have the lower body of a fish, with scales and a tail.
There are far, far, more stories aout mermaids than mermen. There are many stories about mermaids sitting out on rocks in the ocean, and singing. Sometimes they sing so sweetly that they've been known causes ships to crash, or human men to fall in love with them. There are many stories of human men swimming out after mermaids and drowning. On the other hand, there are many stories of sailors eing guided and rescued from storms by them.
There are many stories of mermaids sitting on rocks in bays. They are usually said to have a comb in one hand, whch they sometimes treasure dearly, and a looking glass in the other hand. There are also many urban legends about mermaids, such as mermaids getting caught in tuna nets.
There's a lot of techincal information out there, and I hope to take the time eventually to write out a more educational version of what I've said. In the mean time, thanks for reading! ^_^
