Here are some dragons you show know!
Throughout history there have been many dragon tales. Some were of mean, fierce dragons. Others were of gentle, peaceful creatures. Regardless of which, there are some dragons that have stayed in our culture through song (Puff the Magic Dragon), story (Smaug from "The Hobbit") and other. So on this page will be giving the lime light to a few very popular and recognizable dragons. And... of course to a few others who are just cute and well known... Oh well ^_^ Oh, just a note, all of the dragons shown here are in the "Who's the Coolest Dragon" poll at the left hand side of the page, and you can vote for your favorite dragon there.
Here we have, you guessed, Puff the Magic Dragon. While comical and cartoony, his song is actually pretty sad. Here, you decide for yourself: Puff the Magic Dragon
Puff the Magic Dragon Puff, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee. Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.
Together they would travel on boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his
name, oh
CHORUS
A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giants's rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So, Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave, oh
CHORUS
Pretty damn sad if you ask me... Hmph, a children's song! (jk)
Any one who's ever read J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" will know this dragon. He was a horrible Tyrant who terrorized villages and stole treasure. He lived on a faraway mountain were he guarded his treasure from theives. He was not such a nice character as far as dragons go, but I was still a little bit sad when he died...
Not overly well known, Falkor the Luck Dragon from Michael Ende's "Neverending Story" is my own personal favorite. While he was filmed as a slow-talking, deep voiced, pink fuzzy dragon in the movie, in the book he was said to be a pearly white dragon, who floated above the ground, and had a bell-like voice with which he would sing as he slept, gliding through the air as he did so. He was peaceful and wise, and tried to help Atreyu and Bastian in their quests.
If you have younger relatives who watch children's TV, you might know of this dragon. While I personally find him a little bit annoying, he is still a respectable dragon. He lives in the woods where he has befriended some children and a comical cast of puppeted forest animals.
And I think everyone has at least seen or heard of this dragon. He stars in three games for Playstation: Sypro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Revenge, and Spyro 3: Year of the dragon. I've played the first two, and I can't get enough of this cute little sheep-butting, fire-spitting, smart-mouthed dragon! I'm partial to RPG's, but loved this game regardless of it's genre.
Well, there you have it, five well known dragons. I'm planning on adding to this list, and to the "Coolest Dragon" poll, so if you know of any famous dragons I've missed, or if you ever want to comment on or suggest anything at all, please click on the "Feedback" button and send me a message. ^_^
