Lunan Weyr was originally in the mountains in the northern part of the middle of the northern continent. It was created to ease the stressfully high populations in the existing weyrs. Though no-one is quite sure as to why it is named "Lunan", it is believed to be named after the person who discovered the cave system.

Argaum Hold was already prospering when the dragonriders moved into the Weyr, which was situated a lot further north than the hold. In fact, another hold was needed as Argaum was already becoming overcrowded, so a number of the hold people moved to the coast and created what was later named Kalinry Hold.

During the following hundreds of turns, the holds and the Weyrs prospered, each with strong ties to the others. At the end of the 5th pass, the Lunan Weyrwoman was the daughter of the Argaum Lord Holder.

Then no Thread came for two hundred and fifty turns.

Gradually, as the holds realised they no longer relied on the weyrs, the bonds between them faded. Tithes got smaller and smaller, and it was no longer an honour for a family member to be a candidate. Any thought that Thread would return was quickly forgotten, or scoffed at.

The dragonriders were determined to save the holders from Thread when it did return. With ten turns left until the estimated time of the next pass, the riders and their dragons began the training that would save them in the mid-air battle with the deadly organism.

In 1256, just over one turn before thread returned, a terrible accident occurred. The Weyr was undergoing an enlargement as the ever-growing population was becoming too crowded for the weyrs, and indeed, even for the lower caverns. However, the rock had become unstable, and the whole cliff face collapsed under the pressure. Half of the weyr populations was killed in this devastating accident, including the Senior Weyrwoman, the Weyrleader, and most of the Wingleaders who had been in a tactical meeting in the Weyrwomans quarters. The newly hatched clutch of 35 weyrlings was the only wing that did not suffer any casualties, as they had all been oiling their dragons by the lake.

As the crater was now considered highly unstable, and there were not many natural caves left, the Weyr was forced to relocate. A crater, with half of the rim missing and occupied by the imense lake, was chosen as the new site for Lunan Weyr. It was further south, almost due east of Argaum hold, and had a warmer climate than the old weyr.

The Wingleader N'laras became acting Weyrleader until a senior queen could be found, and would rise to mate. The only other queen in the Weyr was the newly hatched weyrling, who would not rise for another 2 turns. The previous junior queen had transferred to become the Senior queen at another weyr. A plea was sent out for a suitable queen, preferably close to mating so a new Weyrleader would be found and another clutch would be laid.

Almost a turn after the devastating accident, the new Weyr is complete, and the remaining riders returned to the drills to get what little practise they could before Thread started falling again.

Fortunately, the first fall they flew was mainly over the mountains so they did not need to strain themselves charring thread that would soon die anyway. The Weyr suffered no deaths in that first fall, and few injuries, but until another Weyrwoman was found the Weyr people would remain uneasy. Winter arrived and brought relief from threadfall, the threads freezing in the cold air. Other weyrs sent wings to help fly thread until Lunan could once again get back on its feet.

When Kuni and her queen arrived, the weyr morale was raised. Now all eyes look towards the day when Shaurianth will rise and determine the new weyrleader.

Shortly before Shaurianth was set to rise, a devastating fire rage in the forests between Lunan Weyr and Argaum hold. The acting Weyrleader N'laras was killed, and so his wingsecond J'sen became the Weyrleader. Relations with the Holds began to deteriorate as hard times fell upon them, they say dragonriders as useless things and thus became enraged. The current Lords Holder held the same mentality and organized a team of their best ruffians to come and attack. It was utter chaos, especially when not only the Weyrleader's dragon went /between/ upon his death, but Shaurinath herself gave a mournful cry and turned deathly pale as her rider was also killed, but she couldn't follow as her clutch still hardened on the sands.

Amidst the chaos Shaurinath exited the hatching sands to go after whoever had harmed her beloved, and while she was out, more ruffian snuck in from behind and began to systematically destroy the clutch. The queen returned in time only to save her golden egg. At the end of the night, few riders remained to fix the ills that had beseiged the weyr. Lunan is now looked upon as cursed, and only recently, two turns later, have riders began once again to transfer in.
