Finally after a long wait Bandai released a new edition to the Gundam Chogokin toyline. I'm a big fan of the Gundam Chogokins since their inception and I was glad to hear Bandai decided to continue the line. The proper name for the Gundam Chogokin toyline is "Kadou Senshi". These Gundam figures are some of the most well articulated action figures on the market today. They also have bits and pieces of diecast, which is always a plus. The Gundam Chogokins are marketed towards older Gundam fans in Japan and therefore it covers the older mobile suits. Because the toys a geared towards the older Gundam fans, Bandai has intended to make these toys as true as possible to the original Gundam designs of the late 70s and 80s. Thats why these toys don't feature the fancy details and modernized sculpts found in Bandai's newer Gundam model kits, which include the highly detailed Master Grades. The Gundam Chogokins feature a very clean and simple sculpt. This may turn off the Gundam collectors who are accustomed the being impressed by the insanely detailed Gundam Master Grade kits. Personally, I am glad to see Bandai producing some Gundam toys with an old school look.

The RGM-79 is the Earth Federation's first mass-producted mobile suit. Its basically the Stormtrooper of the Earth Federation. Every good show, whether cartoon or live action needs good Cannon Fodder.

On to the toy. The toy GM features the same exact articulation as the RX-78 so you know what to expect. If you liked the articulation of the RX-78 then you'll like it in the GM. The GM comes with fewer accessories then the RX-78. Take a look below and you can see a pic of the accessories which come with the GM. As has been the case with all the previous Gundam Chogokins the accessories are all well made and very well detailed.

The GM chogokin includes a small FanFan to battle the Dom, which is included with the Zaku II Chogokin.

Everybody who has the previous Gundam Chogokins should go out and pick up one GM. Amuro needs back up in order to battle Char's Zaku II and the standard Zaku II. Diehard fans of the Gundam universe will really enjoy the GM. But don't go in expecting a totally new and different toy from the RX-78 or you will be heavily disappointed. The GM should hold Gundam fans over until the recently announced ZETA GUNDAM. This upcoming toy is sure to satisfy those collectors looking for a totally new Gundam Chogokin toy. Word has it that the Zeta Gundam Chogokin is fully transformable into the Waverider

One more thing to keep in mind is to handle the GM carefully. I've heard alot of reports about fans who accidentally broke parts off their RX-78s. This was due to the RX-78 having thin, weak joints. This area doesn't appear to be corrected by Bandai in the GM toy as its shares most parts with the RX-78. Be gentle with the GM. I've had my original RX-78 since it was originally released and I've had no problems with it. Then again I handled it careful.
