The Mentor Scheme
|
The Worthing Society operates a mentor scheme for referees on its membership roster, the main aims and objectives of the scheme are outlined below:
- To provide help and assistance to newly qualified referees during their first season of refereeing.
- To provide instruction and guidance to referees seeking to gain promotion to the next level.
Members who wish to participate within the scheme are allocated an experienced senior referee from within the society, who will then act as a mentor, monitoring the progress of the referee seeking guidance. This referee will:
- Advise new referees on kit requirements and on administrative procedures to be followed in dealing with clubs, leagues and the Sussex County Football Association.
- Offer general advice on how to prepare for games and introduce new referees to other members and to the activities of the Worthing Society.
- Use the junior referee, where practical and where appropriate, as an assistant referee on matches refereed by the mentor on which they are officiating, or invite the the junior referee to a match on which the senior referee is officiating to appreciate the atmosphere of a bigger game.
- Maintain regular contact with the referee and discuss problems encountered during matches and provide advice on possible alternative action which could or should have been taken.
- Assist the referee with report writing where appropriate.
- Watch one of the referee's games and prepare an assessment setting out their strengths and weaknesses. Dicussing the game with the referee and suggest action that could be taken to improve the referee's performance and effectiveness.
- Discuss any official assessment on the referee that has been received from the County Football Association.
The Mentor Scheme is operated by David Hughes on behalf of the Worthing Society and can be contacted by email at [email protected] for further information regarding the mentor scheme.
