LSM PILAR-AN INDONESIAN NGO

A LEADER IN INDONESIAN DEVELOPMENT
LSM PILAR is an Indonesian NGO committed to achieving a better and more sustainable quality of life in Indonesia. Established in 2001, we have designed and managed several development projects across Indonesia.

Our work spans a range of sectors including Economic Growth; Education; Health, HIV/AIDS; Governance; and Resource and Environment Management.

So far LSM PILAR's projects are funded by its members, international NGOs and international donor like ADB through national donor agencies such as The Indonesian Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development and The Indonesian Ministry of Trade.

We work hand in hand with our host local governments and communities to create local solutions to strengthen their own institutions and make their communities self-reliant beyond the life of our projects.

Our organization attracts high caliber professionals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. This mix helps us to provide our partners with the best development advice and project management in education sector.

Education Sector Program

LSM PILAR has provided education technical assistance through its Education Capacity Building Programs in the period of 2001-2004. The location of these projects are in Central Java and West Java.

Central Java

Capacity Building Programs provide a flexible, responsive mechanism to support policymaking and implementation of strategic social and public sector reform. Selected examples of activities include:

Research and review on education policy and regulations.

Technical advice to enable education policy makers to assess key changes required to promote transparent and consistent implementation of education policy at regional levels.

Technical advice to strengthen the capacity of senior regional education officials to develop a legal and administrative framework for drafting laws relating to the education system.

Support to the education to develop a regional vocational and educational training policy. This involved workshops in Batang, in Central Java  on instructional design and development, and student competency assessment.

Research programs to investigate and analyze financing of basic and secondary education, and National Ministry of Education responses to reduce illiteracy rate in rural-urban regions.

Teacher workshops to upgrade teacher qualifications.

Organizational Development Specialist on the Feasibility and Design for Education Capacity Building Program. The Specialist contributed to the preparation of the Feasibility Report and the Design Framework with a focus on assessing the potential implementation strategies, taking account of agency capacity constraints.

Finally, LSM PILAR reviewed the implementation of the Indonesian Basic and Secondary Education Infrastructure and Curriculum Materials Project. The appraisal provided a technical assessment of the two Training Impact Evaluation Reports, particularly in terms of the methodology used to assess impact, the extent to which the reports met their aims and the appropriateness of recommendations.

West Java

In West Java, LSM PILAR worked with a US NGO, ISA. With our partners, we have been providing a free English course for young people of poor families. This training in English language is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the poor and unemployed youths in Bandung area. By giving the training, we hope that the youths are able to get a job more easily since they have better qualifications.

Support to village leaders in Lembang area to develop a vocational and educational training program for village officials and youths. This involved small workshops on instructional design and development of the vocational education. This also involves English courses as well as leadership development.
