National History
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority is a fairly young organization, chartered March 11, 1986 and founded October 24, 1986 on the campus of CSU Sacramento. It was founded by 27 women who were seeking to make university life less lonesome and more supportive. Our Founders realized that much of the difficulty in forming a Sorority came from the students' unfamiliarity with the Greek system. Most people of Latin, African, Asian and Native American decent had not been a part of the University institution for very long and many still did not comfortably fit in with the University atmosphere. LSG is a Multicultural Sorority that encourages diversity in culture, majors and personal beliefs. It is through acceptance and understanding of other cultures, interests and lifestyles that LSG is strong and united. We are a network of women in higher education seeking to make life less lonesome and more supportive for all women. Unity within our sorority is enhanced by retreats, activities, community service and meetings within each individual chapter, as well as throughout the state. Lambda Sigma Gamma members have found that the sorority is a place to find lasting friendships, community involvement, academic support, and the development of leadership skills. 

Since LSG was founded, twenty-one chapters have joined Lambda Sigma Gamma, with our most recent chapter at University California Los Angeles. Over the years, Lambda Sigma Gamma has grown to include over 1000 women from different creeds, ethnicities, cultures, social-economic backgrounds, physical talents, mental abilities, and sexual preferences. We are continuously growing and welcoming new women to take part of our sisterhood. Our chapters are located throughout California and range from as far north as Chico and as far south as San Diego.
