| I have always been into hotrods, a genetic trait passed down from my father, I believe. Although this is my first attempt at building a cool classic ride I decided to go whole hog and build exactly what I wanted from the get go. It would have been far easier to buy a decent driver and work up from there but I really wanted to learn all I could about body work, fabrication, EFI, etc...on my first project so I purchased an absolute rust bucket with no drive train. Let the fun begin... My vision for this 68 Camaro is to end up with a car that can carve some serious (.9+ g's)corners, hold it's own on the drag strip (11.xx) and still have enough manners to be driven on the street (25+ mpg). It needs to have a viscious stance and have the biggest rubber possible stuffed at all four corners. It need to be able to stop so hard your corneas become detatched. In short a Pro-Touring Camaro. As I mentioned above the car was a complete rust bucket and as such every exterior panel needed to be replaced. I have also replaced the floorboard and the trunk pan. Pretty much the only original parts on the car are the roof and firewall. As for drivetrain, I have installed an 86 Corvette Dana 44 IRS out back mated to an 02 LS1/T56 combo. The factory front subframe has been replaced with a custom piece from Scott's Hotrods. I have mini-tubbed the rear to accept 315/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sports and hope to be able to fit a 275/35/18 up front. Enough talking for now, let the pictures speak for themselves. On a sidenote, I have included a link to www.pro-touring.com. This forum has been absolutely invaluable to me. There are some seriously talented people there and the scope of knowledge is incredible. Unlike many other forums, people who don't know are treated with respect and given the answer or advice they seek. The animosity and disdain for the 'new guy' so rampant on other sites is simply not found here. Thanks guys! |
