Drum Building
I first embarked upon drumbuilding last summer when i was just surfing the net... bored as usual... I stumbled upon the HighWood site, got in contact with Gareth, the owner of the company, and I suddenly became an addict...... An addict to drum building. (hey at least its better than drugs...)

I have to date only done one build, which i have to say I am extremly proud of. Even though i finished the build around January 2005, I have documented the process i went through when building the drum.... Enjoy!
I have ordered two shells this summer... i gonna have fun!

My first Drum Build - How I Went About It
I purchased all I needed for the bulid (except for paint) from HighWood drums.
I got a 14"x5.5" 10 ply keller shell and black chrome hardware to accompany it. Here are the 'raw materials'
I decided to go with a stripy design, using automotive spray paint.
Also.... Mask the inside of the drum!! you dont want to have any paint on the inside of the drum!!!
As i was using paint it was important that i primed the drum first...
After each coat of primer i sanded the drum smooth using 320 grit sandpaper.
When I was satisfied with the primer. I decided it was ready for Rainbow Blue. I wanted purple... but it was the closest I could find....
Anyways... i put several coats of this colour on until i was happy withe the colour... sanding out any drips that appeared along the way
Next came the silver stripe.... to do this was quite easy.... All i did was mask off the area that i didnt want silver and painted away!!
The green was done the same way as the silver.... masking off what I didnt want green and painting...
