Jane Austen (1775-1817)
One of greatest authors of the Victorian era.

Probably no other novelist had as many devoted fans as Jane Austen. With their special charm, simplicity, romance, wit and drama, her novels never failed to delight readers.

Miss Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at the parsonage of Steventon, in Hampshire, England. Her father was the Reverand George Austen and her mother was Cassandra Leigh. She was the youngest of seven children and never married or left her home, except for short visits to Bath. She sewed beautifully, kept house, wrote many letters and read aloud a great deal.
"Pride and Prejudice" is considered her best work and her masterpiece. Two years later came "Sense and Sensibility" and then came "Northanger Abbey", then "Mansfield Park", "Emma" and "Persuasion" At the time of her death, she had been in the process of writing another novel, which sadly, was never completed. She died on July 18, 1817.
