The Novel
This novel is filled with romance, intrigue and charm. The characters are strong and the entire story is fabulously written. It is truly one of Jane Austen's masterpieces.
This is the story of the gradual relationship between Miss Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth is "blinded by unreasonable prejudice" and Mr. Darcy is "held back by unconquerable pride". Elizabeth, at first, believes that Darcy is a snob, but eventually realizes that he is caring and kind. Darcy, at first, does indeed have an air of snobbery about him. He believes that Elizabeth's family is beneathe his social class and "despite his better judgement", he falls in love with Elizabeth. Circumstances arise in which Elizabeth's reputation is indirectly at stake and Darcy comes to the rescue and solves problems behind the scenes, all for Elizabeth's sake. After the pride and prejudice disolve, Elizabeth and Darcy finally reveal their love for each other. Mr. Bingley and Elizabeth's sister, Jane, also have a happy ending to their romantic relationship and both couples end up having a double wedding.
The A&E Movie
This version of "Pride and Prejudice" is spectacular. Jennifer Ehle is great as Lizzy and the talented and extremely handsome Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy. This movie is an excellent adaptation of the book. All of the cast portray the characters just as you imagine them in the novel. The sets and scenery are lavish, the music is wonderful and the story is unforgettable, romantic and enchanting. The dance scenes are very nice.
This is definitely the best movie version and the most romantic movie ever made.
The Classic Movie
This movie version of "Pride and Prejudice" is a very happy, fast-paced production. Greer Garson is the saucy, but cute Elizabeth and Lawrence Olivier portrays her Mr. Darcy. This movie makes a happy ending for all 5 of the Bennett daughters and is a really good version, but the A&E version far outshines the classic one.
