"Brother and sister! No, indeed."
The novel
In this wonderful, witty, charming work by Jane Austen, the main character is certainly flawed. She is a self-defined matchmaker and sometimes does not think before she acts. Despite her character flaws, the reader comes to love Emma Woodhouse, just as Mr. Knightley does.
Emma is constantly trying to match up others in romantic relationships, meanwhile nearly missing out on her own romantic opportunities. Mr. Knightley and Emma eventually realize that they mean more to each other than just brother and sister. All of the characters in the book end up happily, well-matched and the reader is left feeling content.
It is definitely a novel that can be read over and over again.
The A&E Movie
This movie version of "Emma" is very close to the original novel. Kate Beckinsale is good and the movie is good and definitely worth watching. It is very enjoyable.
The Miramax Movie
This movie has beautiful scenery, elegant costumes, romantic music and exceptional actors. Gwynneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam are excellently cast as the mischievous Emma and the caring Mr. Knightley. There are many unforgettable scenes in this superb adaptation of the Jane Austen novel. It is delightful, fun, lighthearted and very romantic.
This is by far the best movie version of the novel and one of the best movies ever made.
