Another of the hobbit race is Peregrin Took, played by Billy Boyd. His main purpose in the movies is comic relief, although his role will become more important towards the end of this saga.
His main concern is food, followed secondly only by the eating of food. He likes playing with skeletons and asking silly questions (Where are we going?). His portrayal in the movie is much more humorous than it is in the books (like many of the characters).
Pippin�s serious line in FotR was: �Is he going to die?� to Aragorn about Frodo.

To the untrained (and unknowledgeable) eye, it would appear that Meriadoc Brandybuck and Pippin Took are brothers. But alas! �Tis not true! They are simply another obnoxious hobbit tag team. Dominic Monaghan plays Merry in our movie trio.
Merry seems to be a little more serious compared to Pip. This may be because he simply does not make the stupid (but funny!) comments that his cohort Pippin does.
His defining FotR moment comes when he realizes Frodo�s plans to go it alone and his and Pip�s diversion of the Orcs� attention, which leads to them being captured.
~He is the Slightly Smarter Fool of the Rings.
