| Gandalf The wisest, coolest, and only old dude in the fellowship is Gandalf played by Ian McKellen. He is a Maia, one of the Istari (Wizards) and was also known as Mithrandir (The Grey Pilgrim) and Ol�rin. He is the leader of the pack and long-time protector of the Shire folk. He is an ordinarily calm and mellow character, partly due to the fact that he smokes large amounts of weed. Although he is very wise indeed, his greatest moment of stupidity shines through when the Balrog�s whip drags him into the Shadow. But he does return, better than ever, in TTT. And although Saruman whipped him the first round, I have a feeling that ol� Sharkey will get his�100 times worse---in round two. ~He is the Wise One of the Rings. |
| Gimli Still yet another stumpy character in our trilogy is Gimli son of Gloin, played by John Rhys-Davies. But Gimli is a Dwarf, not a Hobbit. He is a very stubborn, proud, and outspoken dwarf who has a slight speech impediment that involves a surplus of saliva in his mouth that is expelled at times, much to everyone�s dismay. He begins the tale almost hating Elves, and most of all Legolas. But, later on they will become good friends, and Gimli will be another source of comic relief (taking the pressure of off poor Pippin). This dwarf is very partial to his nice braided beard and refuses to let anyone toss him around. ~He is the Somewhat Unimportant Killing Machine of the Rings. |
