Amida Kuji is only briefly mentioned in Fruits Basket. Both in the anime and manga, there's a scene where Tohru asks Kisa what she's like for dinner. Kisa, of course, can't answer with speech, so Tohru makes a quick Amida Kuji game to play with Kisa to figure what's for dinner!
Amida Kuji is very, very simple. It's used in Japan for many things...fortunes, figuring out who will be who in a play, figuring what prizes someone will win, or simple things like whats for dinner!
Let's try a simple example. Let's say you have three friends...Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure! :D You draw three vertical lines on a peice of paper. At the top of each line, write a name!
Now, what you're trying to figure out is what gift you're getting them for Gift Giving Day! What you have to give is: Chocolate, Cookies, and Cake! yUM.
So you write those at the bottom of each line, in any order. (Example follows.)
Now, draw any number of random horizontal lines between the vertical ones. It doesn't matter how many, or if the amount between each vertical lines are balanced. Just make sure they don't overlap eachother. (Example follows.)
Now, to figure out who gets what, you pick a name (I chose Yuki, since his name happened to be first) and follow down with your finger until you come to a horizontal line. YOu follow that, then go down that line until you get to ANOTHER horizontal line, etc., until you get to your result! (Example follows.)
As you can see, Yuki gets cake!
To make sure you're doing it right, try to see what Kyo and Shigure get!
Then, when you're done, highlight here between the brackets for the right answers! :) [[Answers: Shigure gets cookies, Kyo gets chocolate! Did you get it right? ^^]]

SUMMARY
Amida Kuji can also be used for fortunes! Just put little symbols at the top of the lines and "good luck" or "bad luck" at the bottoms! :D
