2, August 2001 : Buckethead/Finck To Be On Carpenter Soundtrack

Legendary filmmaker and cult movieman, John Carpenter, has asked guitarists Robin Finck and Buckethead of Guns N' Roses to lay down some sounds for his upcoming horror movie Ghosts of Mars.

Buckethead is an avid Carpenter fan, getting the idea for his white mask from the Halloween movie, and also drawing inspiration to his music from other Carpenter classics such as The Thing, The Fog and Escape From New York.

1. August, 2001 : Slash To Reunite With Michael Jackson At Anniversary Bash

It's been known that Slash was expected to perform in a tribute for the pop legend, but here's an article from cdnow that finally confirms it:

While Michael Jackson's anniversary bash might be having some problems in the Jackson 5 reunion department, it's having no trouble landing top stars to join in the festivities.

It was just announced on Monday (July 30) that former Guns N' Roses guitarist-turned-solo artist Slash will join the King of Pop for the Jackson 5 performance and for Jackson's solo hits, "Beat It" and "Black & White." Slash has worked with Jackson in the past - on 1991's Dangerous and a year ago on Jackson's forthcoming new album.

"I am so excited about working with my dear friend Slash again," says Jackson in a statement released Monday. "He is a brilliant guitarist whom I really admire, and I look forward to having Slash perform with me again on these two special nights."

Slash returned the praise by saying, "It's going to be a blast being onstage again with Michael. I am really looking forward to two great nights of music, and I'm honored to be a part of any event honoring him. He truly is one of the greatest talents known. Michael is timeless, classic and resilient. Here's to another 30 years."

As previously reported, the event, titled Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, the Solo Years, will take place Sept. 7 and Sept. 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York, and features hundreds of other artists, including Destiny's Child, Ricky Martin, Missy Elliott, and Mary J. Blige.
