Never Wax Your Cat; Never Watch Chinese Television
Either Will Make You Crazy
Other than the standard sports, game shows, news, and veg-a-matic shows,
every Chinese TV show seems to be either a soap opera or 
melodrama. Whether set
in ancient or modern times, all are apparently over-acted and contain all the
themes of American television – love, betrayal, vice, deception, violence, and
happy people with smart gadgets that all live in pretty houses. Reality
television here would, I am sure, immediately inconvenience the government.
You haven’t lived until you have watched a Tim Allen Christmas spoof and the latest remake of The Last Of The Mohicans dubbed in Chinese with no sub-titles. It was definitely a 4-beer TV-nite at the Hagar abode. It was really surrealistic to see Bush speaking with a Chinese newscaster overlaid; Miller (Chingdao) time again.
It is Christmas day in China. Christmas here is much like it’s American counterpart in some ways – a commercial vehicle for marketing executives to support their smart families, smart gadgets and BMW’s.
