International Toatmaster Sister Clubs to LoneStar Toastmasters |
Who says we aren’t a truly international organization? Why not establish a “sister club” relationship with another Toastmasters club overseas? With membership growth comes new ideas and this year LoneStar is doing things differently. For the first time in our history and perhaps in Toastmasters International’s history clubs from across the seas are joining with us in an exchange of ideas as well as speeches as we embark on a new journey with International Sister Clubs. Think of the exchange of ideas that we could accomplish! The camaraderie that could be established and the exciting things we could share and learn from each other’s culture! Think of the possibilities! We have already exchanged newsletters and we will be gathering different types of speeches to send to each other. First, we intend to send everyone’s Icebreaker speech, so we can truly get to know one another and then we will progress from there. I truly believe we could be on to something here. LoneStar currently is exchanging ideas and enthusiastic well wishes with not just one, not even only two, but THREE outstanding overseas clubs in Moscow, Russia, Basel, Switzerland and Gothenburg, Sweden! We invite and challenge other clubs to join us in this endeavor and open your doors to other clubs throughout the world! You may never know what you might discover!
The Moscow Free Speakers club was founded and chartered in 1989 by an American, Robert Meyerson, who was passionately committed to the cause of Toastmasters. The Moscow Free Speakers Club offers Toastmaster opportunities to everyone, irrespective of sex, race, nationality and religion. The philosophy of Moscow Free Speakers is to provide a mutually supportive environment in which every one is motivated to hone his or her communication and leadership skills. Meetings are held every first and third Thursday each month from 7 to 9 p.m. The working language is English. Both members and guests are required to communicate only in English in the course of a program.
A member of Toastmasters International, Basel Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive learning environment in which every member can develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth. The club was chartered in May 2000, and meets twice a month on the first Tuesday and third Wednesday from 7 to 9:15pm in the. In addition to standard Toastmasters meetings with prepared speeches, they also have debate meetings, which is quite a unique idea.
Speech Masters Toastmasters club of Gothenburg, Sweden
was chartered in April of 1995. Their club is a company club with Volvo
and is dedicated to empowering Volvo employees and associates to improve
their communication skills. They meet on the 1st Tuesday and 3rd Thursday
of the month from 5 to 6:45 pm in the Volvo Admin Office in Gothenburg.
The first goal that President Hanna Wahlström set for her club
was that all officers should give a speech about their position on the
board (their executive committee) so that the members know what it is
that the officers do. |
