Thomas joined the Lone Star Squadron from its initial conception as one of the original members. At that time, Thomas was a low time pilot transitioning to his recently completed RV-6A. He had completed his private training during the construction of the RV-6A and went on, with the help of other team members to be part of the Lone Star Squadron.

Thomas began constructing his RV-6A in 1997 from the standard kit, and the first flight was completed by Bryan Jones (one of the Lone Star Squadron members) on August of 2001. Since then Thomas has accumulated over 400 hours of enjoyable flight time in his airplane.

During the down time from flying, Thomas works for Oceaneering Space Systems as an Engineering Manager supporting NASA design and fabrication of EVA hardware for current and future missions. Thomas has previously worked at General Dynamics as a structural test engineer and was involved in static and fatigue testing program for F-16, F-111 Life Extension Program and YF-22 and the cancelled A-12 program (Advance Tactical Aircraft for the Navy).

Thomas has a very supportive wife, Joanne, and three wonderful children (Timothy, Jonathan and Jocelyn). Thomas takes the boys up flying when the weather permits and they seem to have a good feel for the airplane. Thomas loves to fly formation with his flying buddies.
