FRASER ISLAND leans out from the southern coast of Queensland and sweeps north towards the Great Barrier Reef. Not only is it the largest island off Australia's eatern coatline, it's the world's largest sand island. The magical paradise which has formed atop its curvy mass is one of the most diverse on the planet, with dazzling lakes and spectacular coloured sands, immense sandblows and lush rainforests, forest giants and abundant wildlife, and a turbulent human history brimming with high adventure, idyllic times, battles victorious and futile, destruction and conservation.
It's a miracle of nature: all that lives and grows on Fraser Island grows on sand.
As a mark of its uniqueness, Fraser Island is classified a World Heritage Area - one of less than 400 worldwide
